Holy crap. you are SO lucky. I feel for you. all though it wasn't nearly as bad, I rolled my ankle and fractured my fibula. I couldn't ride for like 2 months and that seemed long. But if you cant dj for the rest of your life, that's pretty harsh. sorry to hear it. but at least you can still ride a bike.
Yea shits missed up, im more than happy that i can walk let alone ride a bike thats just a bonus. im suppose to get the brace off in 10 days so im really looking forward to it, ive had the brace on for 70 days but it feels like i had it on my entire life.

Woohoo getting the brace off that is good. ive got 1 month left until the brace is off, might miss it, lol. but anyway as you said being able to walk is great let alone ride, its great that your up and about and getting better. Well i hope everything goes well for you.
man im sorry to hear about that but if you wanna stay with biking you can always take up xc and road and stuff like that but you can start photography and take picutres of biking or make biking movies of people and you could become a bike mechanic and you could build trails and jumps for other people and stay with biking in many ways.. hope you heal good and dont need surgery.. good luck!
thats great dude. being the same age as you. it really makes me think. right now i've been doing xc for a couple years but i just put a down payment on a dh rig. heres a quote i read on here that i really like "I would rather die on my bike , then live without it for fear of dying"
4 years ago, a m8 of mine accidentaly broke my neck at school while i was reading my german workbook lol, kinda fcked up, i didnt expect an impact or anything and it miraculously snapped. messed up my ligaments, muscles, c6/c7, etc. had to pee with my mom helping me for like a month, couldnt do sports for 4 months, was a pretty hectic experience... do not give up on biking, never ever. i am riding DH/FR right now, statistically injuring my neck like that wont happen to me ever again, so kinda holding on to that, and riding like never b4.
yea so i just got back from the hospital, the neck brace is off. it feels very different haha. i shall be back to normal by christmas .
Good to hear man. At least you will have the winter to get things up to par before actually going out riding again. Enjoy the first ride, it will be memorable. Again, congrats.
yea so i'm slowly beginning to get movement back in my neck, its still sore alot bu that makes sense. ive already started physio and thats helping me out alot. the thing is though that i'm pretty sure physio is more painful than actually breaking it.
hey same thing happened to me when i was ten . i am now 15 and just started biking a year ago . i was in a brace to i know it suck but we should be happy that we can still walk. let it take some time and you will be back on a bike before you no it.
Your doctors and parents are almost certainly just being over cautious. I have several friends that have had more serious spinal injuries than that and haven't had to change a thing once they fully healed. If there was no damage to your spinal cord then chances are almost 100% that the degree of dysplasia is not significant enough to warrant such a dramatic change in lifestyle. Go see a different doctor and get his opinion.
I'm done with freeriding and dirt jumping and shit now but I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a road bike or a cross country bike.
I'd go for an xc rig. XC riders get alot of flack, but I really miss doing those laid-back rides. No stressing about blowing a jump or crashing, the guys you're riding with leaving you in the dust, or anything like that. Just you and some nature to get lost in. Plus the bikes pedal like a dream.
Edit: I see now that this thread is hella old - how'd it all work out for you? Are you riding again yet?
I fractured my skull, broke my neck in 2 places (C1, C2), broke my back in 2 places (T3, T4) and broke off a rib...all from a little endo. My back now looks like Tara Llanes' back but I only have 10 screws holding my spine together and she's got 12 and I am still walking. Best wishes to Tara!
Don't let it stop you from doing what you want. I still ride and try to ride hard...no more BMX dirt jumps though haha!
Here's what it looks like...

People say I'll be faster now that I have titanium parts. Took a while to get off all the pain pills but it didn't slow me down too much....except for the DJ-ing.
