There's a section explaining the compass (nail and string method). Also I think 6 ft with 8 ft. radius is very steep. If this is your first ramp, it's better to err on the side of mellow. Longer radius...

so the length of where you put your string is how tall your jump is or the radius. ??

the length of the dotted line (the string) is the radius. if your "degrees of arc" go all the way up to 90 degrees, then you have a quarter pipe that goes right up to vert--in that case, the ramp's height and radius are the same, e.g. 8 foot tall, 8 foot radius. if your ramp is 5 foot tall with an 8 foot radius, it's like you're cutting 3 feet off the top of an 8 foot tall quarter pipe.

Im currently building a dirt/mulch jump with a wooden take off and dirt/mulch landing. I am hoping to learn 360s, proper whips, no handers etc. and I was wondering how many times longer the landing should be than my wheel base considering the landing will be reasonably shallow and I barely have any stopping space (about 20 feet). Will try and get pics up tomorrow. Cheers.
thanks to all that have been posting cause it inspired me to stay in this weekend and create some magic: 4ft high-3.5ft wide-7.5ft long- 110inch radius- 100% stoked
thanks to all that have been posting cause it inspired me to stay in this weekend and create some magic: 4ft high-3.5ft wide-7.5ft long- 110inch radius- 100% stoked Got super lucky and found the ugliest piece of treated plywood and got it for dirt cheap then hit up the scrap section of home depot which yielded me everything i needed to build this banger. Total cost $26.00 including galvanized screws.
its the angle of the picture which makes it look steep, it's not though. From the side it looks better. I could've gone steep but decided to keep it at 110. I'll post the finished pic by the weekend.
Hi guys don't know how to post a pic of my ramp on this forum but uploaded some pictures on my account. It's 4ft high and 3ft wide. Still need to put the top sheet of plywood on but before I do that I was wondering if anyone new anyway to make the top grippy so you don't slip or wether you just leave it or paint it?? Was going to just leave it without painting but I live in England Would be sick if anyone could help me out

Also, you can use grip tape (like for skateboards).
To post a pic, you right-click on the picture to look at the Properties. In the Properties, there will be a URL address to the location of the picture. (This address most likely ends in "...jpg"). Jpg indicates a type of image file. Anyway, you copy that address then click the Photo button while you're typing in a message--the photo buttton is the third to the right of the globe. You paste the URL address of the photo into the dialog box that says Enter Photo URL:

Thanks for the quick reply. Might try the Sand and paint method because it sounds like it will last longer than the skateboard grip tape especially being outside
