Hey,
This is my first post and would like to ask a question.
I have a 2006 Giant STP1, and would like to know what I can do to it with $600 ASD to make it more Downhill orientated. And if I sell (eg. Handle bars and make $30) that is also included in the price.

To start with I would put some gears on it.

gears, then fork (a pike or a 55), then brakes like juicys or something.

Sorry, I do not know chinese.
Thankyou for the comments and keep them coming. As people say eg. "fork" can you please specify what type and brand and why.

Why don't you just save up to a fully?
But if you want upgrades on that bike umm I think new tires(maxxis minion dhf for both wheels) because your current tires suck. And new brakes, avid juicy 5 or formula oro k18 are both great brakes for a great price, though for dh i'd choose the formula..if you still have money the gears maybe.

id get some new brakes, soles really suck once they get old, my friend has some and they dont work in the rain, so for downhill it could be a real problem, so get some juicy 5s or strokers
try to get a longer travel fork, this might not be an option for you because forks can cost twice as much as your price range, but see if you can find a rockshox domain or somthing like that, but ive heard of pikes breaking off 5ft drops when they were brand new so try to get something else
you dont really need gears for DH, at least i dont, i put it in 8th and its good all the way down

I would get a longer travel fork, new rubber, some gears, a box guide, and a set of Stroker Trails!

why cant you do DH on a single speed bike? i do DH with a chainless bike...

If you are on a budget, you could find a drop of II front fork used in good condition for 80-100 on the buysell. You might have to change out that front rim too. But DH on a HT is not much fun.

id say... sell your giant and buy a real downhill bike Wink

i'd just like to interrupt for a sec to welcome you to the pinkbike forums! Smile

-new fork ie: marzo 66, rockshox totem.. but those are rather expensive
-new brakes ie: juicy 5

gears and new tires would be a good thing in the future...

buying an actual DH bike would be most beneficial though
