i have juicy fives and am getting really annoyed by the amount of free play before the pads make contact on the rotor. it seems to me that the only adjustment on the entire system is the lever reach adjustment. does anybody know if there are any more adjustments or if it is possible to make the pads contact the rotor faster?

you could bleed them.

Put the lever adjust right out, so they're as far away as possible. The mechanical advantage added by that stiffens it. I did the same thing with my juicys.

There is nothing you can really do except keep squeezing your lever until they come close or cable tie the lever so that they are grabbing the brake solidly, And leave it over night. Also if these brakes have not been bled yet i would suggest you get it done and add dot 5.1 oil. Avid give their brakes a crap factory bleed.
