Hello everyone, im new and would like to say hello! i found this site through my first copy of mountain biking uk and would like to ask soem advice. Whilst searching for my first mountain bike (and by first i mean the first one that wasnt under £120 from halfrauds) and am looking at a spesh rockhopper disc (£600) or a commencal Combi Disc (£450). from what i can see (got my newbie goggles on) they are pretty similarly spec'd and weigh the same but surely they cant be because of the £150 difference in price. could you help me? atm im heading towards the commencal because of price difference but wanted some pro advice. thanks for any replies!!!
atm just trails, some bits on road and then fun tracks through woods. no jumps (if i see them and then have the skill avoid them ) so was told a hardtail is what i should be after
The only thing better on the Specialized is the fork, other then that the only big differences is that the Specialized has Shimano, and the Commencal has Sram so that has to be your decision if you want Sram or Shimano. I personally like Sram.
also please dont mock me if this is the gayest question ever, but the sizing is different for a commencal its in small medium and large etc... not the inches, im 5ft 11" so would large be ok?
Yeah you'd probly be a large, but if you ever want to jump on it you might get a medium and put the seat up more so then if you do want to jump you can just put it down and it will handle better, but go ride both if you can.

look for geometry on their sit and find out what the size in inches is, also call them up and ask what size you should get
/ \ what he said! im a 32.5" inside leg. thanks for this guys! | |
hey man, if you can, ride them, and the sizes that you think apply. that is the most imporant part. numbers dont mean anything in that respect. it might have the right sizes for armlength on the frame but the stem maybe a tad longer, or shorter throwing being comfortable out the door. and if your new at the sport, you probably dont realy know how to test the bike so see if u can rent each bike out for the weekend and see if it does everything u want it to do. if not, test ride them more than once! u dont notice everything the first time. good luck dude! and remember that chick dig scars haha
that size is almost not important, look at the top tube length that will tell you how long the bike will be you; dont want to be really stretched out or all cramped up tell me what the TT is and i can give you a better answer, but also call then and ask
