BUT IT IS TIME TO STOP. this convo has gone on WAY to long.... this is the WRONG thread to continue that talk in. im personally sick of threads getting closed from this type of talk. now please lets move on.
Why would the thread get closed for this friendly convo as long as there's no argueing(That is 'til a jerk like you comes along!) Rolleyes

I have to say I'm pretty tired of checking this thread to hear about a derailleur in a box.

I think the point is that discussing the RN01 ad nauseum is tiring to say the least, especially since this thread is supposed to be about home made bikes instead of a bike that is the exact opposite- a bike built by a very large corporation with almost unlimited resources (relatively speaking) that has absolutely no plans of ever doing anything with it.

Now if you want to apply technologies from the RN01 to your own personal home built gearbox bike then go right ahead and fire up the welder. Lots of people have built their own gearbox/gearhub/whatever you want to call it bike and I am personally far more inspired by these people and what they have achieved with their limited resources than I am with Honda.

So here's some inspiration- no idea who built any of this stuff by my hat's off to them.

Don't feel like looking for pics, but that milyard kid in the UK built a bad ass gearbox bike. Single sided swing arm that had the chain going internaly and a shock he made himself. Saw it at sea otter one year and the things was bad ass

And for anyone looking to make their own CVT I believe the patent on this has expired.
