Well long ago they used to name road cycling clubs after the local villages, cities or the landscape features
However that was then many still retain the old names

For example there's a road cycling club on the Isle of Wight called the Vectis Road Cycling Club (VRCC) I think (the iow used to be called Vectis Isle)

Dunno if that helps :S
