They are changing the whole line up to look like a trek. That's basically it. Everyone who has one of these Marins, myself included (attack trail) knows how good they are. But most people don't test ride a bike before buying, they go by looks, and the Marins look different. The unique look is killing sales, therefore the bike must look like other bikes which are presently selling well. Therefore, next year they will look like a trek. Giant's look like a trek now, so do norcos with the new 2010 bikes. It's just like cars. Design is dictated by customer opinion rather than function. I will not buy another Marin when this one wears out. I would rather buy the bike from the comany which originated and stuck with their own design. I'm dissapointed, but I understand that the company must survive. I'm really going to enjoy my Attack Trail while it lasts.

uh MAJOR CALLING OF BS. Quote your sources
uh. My opinions and speculations require no sources. Here are the bikes about which I opined:
ah yes. well I retract the BS...f*cking A marin But really I can't blame them, they are a company
From what I have been told the new platform has the same axle path and pedaling charicteristics with a slightly more linear compression ratio, Which should make for a really fun bike. apparently these will be avail for demo at the interbike dirt demo
The changes weren't done just to make them look like a trek.....it was done to also bring down the cost of the bike. Apparently the old rear swing arms cost Marin over $500 each. With the new look Marin brought the prices down a ton! The bikes will still rip but they will be able to compete with giant and trek with similar price points. I am super excited for Marins 2012 line up.

The swing arm wasn't expensive it was the hydroformed down tube with the pivots that cost them huge cash dollars

No way. The simple truth is the main pivot point is now way lower than where the old virtual pivot was. This will kill square edge sensativity. The new design will also cause the bike to have a lot more pedal bob. What are they going to do about a DH bike? Are they going to use the quad design on anything?
Seriously... I want a wolf ridge and a Team DH frame. My Quake frame isnt going anywhere now for sure.
Oh man I loved my wolf ridge before I got the rp23 pushed....after.... Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HuegrK2s-SA/SXog9JjBObI/AAAAAAAAA3Q/76hn-gszy_k/s400/O-face.jpg still want a team dh, but I doubt that will happen.
Are the newer ones given a more linear spring rate? I've got an old 2009 (non curvy frame) and it's pretty tough to feel if it bottoms out (roco tst in the rear).

Ramp up so you don't feel it bottoming is a good thing... screw linear. I have an 07 and I have felt it bottom. Few extra psi in the DHX and I havent felt a harsh bottom out since even though I know its using 100% travel. Its a very plush yet bottomless feel... its a great design... WTF Marin...

I am just telling you what the rep told me. I am pretty sure the team DH will remain unchanged and availble for 2012
