Hey guys, I'm pretty sure I'm heading down to Santa Barbara next fall and I'm wondering what kind of riding there is there. I have looked a bit online and theres some AM stuff and definitely xc but is there any dh? Wondering if its worth it to bring the dh bike too or sell it in the summer.

Most of the trails in Santa Barbara are DH trails. Almost everything is shuttle accessible. Look up tunnel trail, cold spring trail, and knapps castle in the video section of this site.
More Mesa is probably the best public DJ site around here. Nothing amazing but 10+ doubles that are fun to ride. It can be a bit hard to find the first time, so go on google maps and get a good idea of where it is. It is center left, marked by all the bike tracks and exposed sand.
Hey everyone, I'm heading to Santa Barbara first weekend in May and definitely wanna do some riding when I'm there. Do you know what's the best local bike shop to rent a bike from? I know I'll be able to ride only one day so I'm not bringing my bike from NY and wanna rent decent trail/AM bike. Also if you would have recommendation on local "must ride trail" I would really appreciate it. Not looking for super gnarly DH trails, since I need to attend wedding that weekend. You know, trying to play it safe this time. Thanks for any info.
So it depends on what kind of bike you want to ride. I know Velo Pro downtown has demo Konas that you can rent for the day. And I figure that Bicycle Bobs (specialized dealer) or any of the other shops also have demo bikes. It is usually cheaper and nicer to grab a new 2013 demo bike than go to a rental shop and rent an old piece of rubbish for the same price.
As far as trails go... the front country can be a bit more gnarly and exposed than the back country. If you want to play it safe and still have some fun, I would go ride Knapps Castle in the back country. Amazing long DH run with some jumps and plenty of turns. Plus very little rocks.
Thanks for the info man.I talked to VeloPro already but they have only two models of full suspension bikes to choose from. Was hoping for better selection but if nothing, that will have to do it. I'll keep searching and see.
Also does anyone know if there is some other forum or MTB organization for riders in Santa Barbara where I could get more input on trail maps and stuff ? Thanks.
