i got shinned today, first time ive done it on my v8's , for some reason i did a bunny hop and just lifted my foot off with out thinking, bit of blood and a bruised shin
I was shinned badly continously for a whole day of DH riding whilst wearing shorts. The bike I rented had Truvatinv Holzfeller pedals, and I didn't have my knee / shin guards with me at the time. The pedals themselves are grippy, but man do those pins hurt. They're so long and thin and they tear skin very easily. By the end of the day there was blood running down all over both my legs and it really hurt to move them at all. The next day in school I couldn't take part in PE because it was so bad, and the teacher understand why when she saw them.
This was back in April, and I still have the scars today, 7 months later.
My most recent shinning was commin out of the air on a high speed hip launch, on the landing my foot slipped off the pedal, and i could feel it as if it were in slow motion, and just as i started to shift my weight over to the other side of the bike so i could adjust my foot on the compression of the landing it slipped off and all my weight from the other side was transferred through on full revolution of the crank directly to my shin...blood, bruises and pain ensued, but i managed to ride away and finish the run! my shins have been shredded so much that portions of them (front and back) look like inverted diamond plate...
but i didnt want stitches cause my parents would get mad (stitches are expensive, lucky canadians dont you guys have free medical??)
How much is your medical stuff down there, I truly have no idea. Like lets say maybe an arm cast? and possible per stitch?
idk ive never broken a bone (knock on wood). and idk exactly for the stitches, ive had em a few times but i never see the bill (thanks mom!) i remember my friend complaining about a $100 bill (USD) for like 8 stitches on his shin. but thats after insurance, so its REALLY expensive down here. good insurance will pay like 85% or somethin idk cuz my parents cover that shit but then you have to pay the rest. kinda sucks ass
Getting shinned has got to be one of the worse pains! I eventually had enough of them and no I make sure to wear my shin guards regardless how short of a ride i am taking.
unlucky to all you americans with no nationalised healkthcare! us brits get whatever treatment needed for free!
Your grasp of universal health care is flawed. Even in Canada; our health care isn't free, despite a universal health care system...you still have to pay for it... premiums/deductable and what-not... you still need health care coverage in this country... i once injured myself in school like 10 years ago and needed an ambulance... 4 months later i recived a bill for the ambulance ride in the mail. Emergency health care is free... but its not as of the same quality care you would recive if you had coverage...
