My brother and I are just getting into the freeride/downhill scene. Is the ollie a good bike to start with? weve been riding since we were 5 and use to race BMX so were not new to bikes just long travel fr/dh stuff. Can it be upgraded to say boxxer teams and possible 8" travel in the rear? We live in michigan so it doesnt get too extreme here. Or is the factory setup good enough for freeride and minor downhill?

The Ollie is a great start out bike. One that will take you from 1 foot drops to gaps, berms, hips etc. The Ollie was partially redesigned for 2008 and although a great start bike it does have it limits. You could put a Boxxer on it no problem, though I'm not sure what they did to lower the travel from the privious versions of it. The pre-2008 Ollies are adjustable between 7 and 8.5 inches of travel. I'm not sure if they use a shorter shock or re-designed linkage. To be honest I would look for a pre-08 Ollie or look at the Wilson 1.

Thanks. I think if we get the '08 were going to eventually build it up starting with putting a van r in the rear and then maybe 66 RC3's. But it all depends on money which we dont have a lot of. We really want to get a brand new bike and the lifetime warranty is worth it. We might look into the Wilson but I think it might be overkill for us cuz we still want o be able to do all kinds of trails with it cuz were only gonna have one bike. Where is the best place to buy Devinci's if I live in the US? Ive only found freeborn.

As far as I know Devinci's are sold in the US, if Freeborn is a store I could be wrong. Since Devinci uses the horst link they would have to pay Specialized royalties to sell the bikes south of the border. A couple of years ago they sold thier line for one year and did this by moving the pivot to make the bikes a Single Pivot.

Sounds like you've decided on the 2008 Ollie for good reason. The Wilson is 8.6-9.1 inches of travel, but if that is too much, than its too much. Have you looked at the Frantik 1?

I have looked at the frantik and i don't really like the look of the frame. The Ollie just looks better to me. So do you think I could order one through my local specialized dealer?

No, you'd have to order through a Canadian dealer.

I have looked at the wilsons and i think my brother and i are going to get wilson 1s. So no US dealer could special order them for us?

Doubt it, worth a try though. If you do get one it'll most likely come from a Canadian dealer.
