agreed we need a good place that WONT GET DEMOLISHED.... and whenever we try to do that it ends up getting ruined by stoopid people who have nothing better to do then taking down piles of jumps............ And most of the close hidden places in kelowna are private property..... the only places to bike well where i no where to bike is the spot and harrisons or gillard
Iv been told we will most likly be getting a bike park in around 3 years and it will be built by Jay Hoots. ITs not evan going to be fun tho. becuase Jay just makes table tops with no lip so that the lips dont get recked, and in 3 years we will have other hidden spots and stuff. It is almost usless to be trying to get the city to do somthing for us.

I also think that is a killer spot for all Andrew mentioned and the fact that its on the greenway which means its easily and safely accessable from the mission.
Preliminary budget approval has been received from City Council for the design and construction, in 2009, of Kelowna’s first mountain bike skills park. The south Rutland site is a 3.8 hectare parcel of city owned land on the east side of Mission Creek at the intersection of Hollywood Road South and East Kelowna Road. The Mission Creek Greenway runs through part of the site.
The site was identified as the highest priority location by Cascade Environmental Resources Group, authors of the draft Kelowna and Area Mountain Bike Strategy. City staff will be proceeding with design of the Hollywood Road Mountain Bike Skills Park over the next few months and will be consulting with MTBco and the public during this process on facility design and partnership opportunities.
THE WORD:
MTBco needs input from local riders who are interested in supporting the bike park. We'll need people to work with the City, Cascade Environmental (the consultants) and the bike park designers and contracted builders. We'll need volunteers to put shovel to dirt, and to maintain the park once it's built, include looking after the jumps/stunts, watering, and regular site cleaning.
Business sponsors who'd like to offer any financial or in-kind support, labour, supplies, etc, please contact info@MTBco.ca
INTERESTED ?
Step up at the AGM (18th February, Kinsman Hall, Kelowna), email us info@MTBco.ca or post up right here.
We also want to know your thoughts about the park. What type of lines, size, what about freeride stunts, learner skills areas, etc. Anything you feel strongly about, then post up. What about best practice ? Do you know what works in our climate and terrain ? Dry and dusty. Pitch in, send us the info or the low down.
