Ok, so I think that I'll try and find an Enduro. The only thing is, I'm on a tight budget. I was just wondering how much everyone thinks a lightly used 2008 Specialized Enduro SL Comp is worth. Personally, I think that, if I can find one, I should be able to pick up a used Enduro Comp for around $1800. Because this is most likely going to be my next bike, I'd like to put out the following questions to everyone: 'What do you think of a Specialized Enduro SL Comp or Expert?' Any thoughts on this matter are appreciated.
In attempt to revive this thread, I'd like to post a few more ideas. After a few more months of researching, bike store shopping, pulling down online frauds, craigslisting etc., I've changed my view a little.
The question is: "Of these bikes - Specialized Enduro Comp, Giant Reign X1, Trek Remedy 7, Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC 50, and Fluid LT1 - which do you prefer and why?" I realize that for the Enduro, which at the moment is most appealing, there is also the Pitch Pro, which could be up for discussion, although the colours are pretty ug.
All of these bikes are roughly around the same mark, and here is my current take on each:
Specialized Enduro Comp: Demoed it; great climber, very good descender, ultra light, good part spec, decent value, but a little expensive. Looks great too, though. Current #1.
Giant Reign X1/X0: I put X0 because this is what I demoed. Great descender, but a little on the heavy side (35.5 lbs at LBS). Not as good a climber. Coil shock is a turnoff, and only the X0 (very expensive) has the DHX 5.0 Current #4
Trek Remedy 7: Nice and light, but haven't demoed. Looks good, and probably close to Enduro, but very weak value (RP2, Juicy 3's etc.) for a 3k bike. Current #2
Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC 50: Nice looking bike, getting a little heavier (34 lbs). Carbon fiber bar in rear triangle worries me a little. Alright value factor. Not demoed, not sure if it is as versatile as others, unless it descends as well as I hope. Getting a little pricey. Current #3
Norco Fluid LT1: Tried around bike store. A little heavier (34, same as RM) Doesn't seem as versatile. Fairly good value. Looks fine. Current #5
Specialized Pitch Pro: Didn't rank this one, because I will likely get the Enduro between the two. This may have better value, although it's a significant step down to the coil fork, Juicy 3's and 33 lb. weight. Also it looks a little bit ugly.
By making these detailed posts I'm trying to help out other buyers too, who are looking for an 'all-mountain' bike. Other bike suggestions are welcome, but these few have pretty much got it covered. The all-mountain category seems to be a rising trend these days, as people do not want a bike specific to one category, but rather something that does everything fairly well. I guess, in the end, it is a matter of where you compromise (i.e. I'm trying to compromise as little as possible on either end of the spectrum. A downhill bike would penalize you on XC or uphill, but reward on the downhill or vice versa for a XC bike).
If it's of any interest to anyone, I'm small and tall, with long legs and a small torso. Approaching 6', 130 lbs. I bike the North Shore (B.C. Canada) but also the local XC rides, bike parks, urban etc. I really do do everything.
Sorry for the novel, but the input on this topic interests me a lot...

Wow, sorry about that length, it didn't seem so long when I looked it over...
I'd say you have it pretty well sorted. If you know what you're looking for, then there's not much I could suggest. Take a test ride on the Remedy if you can.
Since nobody has posted pictures of the options here they are Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.bike-alog.com/bikepedia/Helpers/thumb2.aspx?w=800&h=800&filename=9396-20_enduro_expert_brown_ano_V2.jpghere's the 2009 enduro (it actually has Fox 36 talas RL) Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.trekbikes.com/images/bikes/2009/xl/remedy8_rootbeerwhite.jpgHere's the remedy Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://blog-imgs-27.fc2.com/c/h/i/chirosangaku/Reign20Anods.jpgand here's the reign x2
out of all your choices i would go with the remedy because it has better parts
I'm going to compare the 2008 models to be fare, but Hombre has posted the photos (thanks) which I couldn't get up for some reason.
Interesting notes which I came across at some point and time:
- The Specialized Shocks were designed by the head designer of Fox Shocks - 2007 Specialized Shocks were build by SR Suntour *rumoured*, but Specy replaced the internals of everyone's shocks, and most likely aren't using them again... - 2009 Specialized Enduro 'lower-end' models (expert + Comp) don't stock the Specialized fork anymore, but still have their back shock. The higher end models, though (Pro Carbon, S-Works) still stock both fork and shock. - The Remedy has a custom air can, for a bigger resevoir, called the XV - The shock on a Remedy actually floats, because it isn't attach in any way to the front triangle - see the picture Hombre posted (thanks) - The Rocky Mountain Slayer has a bar in the back triangle which is made of carbon fibre, and if that hits a rock or cracks, you're done for!
To me, as someone who rides E V E R Y T H I N G, from urban to the local XC trails, to bike parks, to the North Shore, I actually need an all-mountain bike, and I know it won't do everything perfectly well, I'm looking for the most versatile bike of the bunch. Being sub-30 pounds (the Enduro and Remedy both are) is a big plus. Keep it coming, though, as it's very interesting to see where a forum goes. Thanks.
Friggin' links aren't working! Sorry about that. If anyone can tell me how to post photos properly (it wouldn't let me cut-and-paste the image, only the image link) that I'll redo it properly. In the meantime, I guess you can always cut and paste them into your browser, but I'll redo them as soon as possible.
Im somewhat worried about beating upoun the Remedy for some reason, it doesnt seem very beefy, but i should be getting a Reign Frame pretty soon here.
Theyre all the same it looks like, neck and neck, im just not a fan of Spesh shocks because of their shady history so that eliminates the newer enduro's in my eyes, Reign looks like it should be more FR oriented, and the Remedy more XC oriented.
Its up to you You cant go wrong between the choices really

i have an X2 and it even kicks ass
I'm not denying that the Reign isn't a great bike, I demoed it for a day on the North Shore and it descended beautifully. It's just a little heavy, and didn't climb as well as I'd thought. It did have endless suspension, though...
