Over the past several weeks there have been discussions going on amongst the moderators and selected forum users. It has now been decided that we open the discussion up to everyone. We would like to hear from anyone who has or is having an issue with the way things are currently operating on this site. This thread is not to discuss new features, it is here to discuss issues with the way things are currently operating and hopefully find a way to resolve those issues. If you do have an idea for a new feature then please put it in the Pinkbike Improvements thread.

Lets keep this clean and civil and work together to make a better Pinkbike.

Too much discretion is given to moderators

Moderators seem to be unaccountable when it comes to poor decision making.

The rules for posting images and comments need to be amended accordingly in order to keep the site PG-13. Talk about underage drinking and drug use/pictures of bongs should not be allowed.

Be consistent in moderation. If someone says something that is inappropriate and their post is cessed in one forum but there are similar posts in other threads, cess all the posts. Don’t be selective in what is kept and what is cessed.

Better moderation guidelines need to be implemented to keep up with what is an ever-changing forum.

Mods need to be held to a higher standard than the general user.

Double standards should not be allowed. If a mod does something wrong, they too should be reprimanded by an administrator.

Some mods seem to be inactive. Hire new mods that will do the job and contribute to the site’s overall well-being.

I was under the impression I could do this myself, but I can't seem to manage....how do you turn off friend request notification e-mails?

My biggest qualm is with the inconsistency of moderation. From what I've been told by more than a few moderators, there are no set in stone rules as to what the rules pertain. I've run into trouble on more than one occasion where I'd get a slap on the wrist for doing something that I had done infront of mods time and time again with no issue. I'm not saying you guys should toughen up on all the rules, I'm suggesting you should all be on an even field and reach a clear conclusion as to what is and isn't acceptible on the forums. One topic I'd like to bring up that perfectly illustrates my point is the thread for bmx pods/vods that was made to showcase the great bmx videos and pictures that were not appropriate for the main page due to helmetless riders. The bmx community was told by spoiledgoods that if there are no helmets, the video/picture can not be on the main page but then multiple times since, there has been a mtb video with a helmetless rider. When this was brought up in the thread it was just quickly dismissed with some excuse. Shouldn't the rules be set in stone for everyone, not just the bmx'ers?

The BMX issue was an example and my point is not limited to just that one case but I believe you have gotten my point.

i don't like how the mods and administrators are above everyone, Laurie pretty much summed what i have to say up.

but here is an example that is not really fair.

most people on here are familiar with Kakah's "Corey's mom" pictures were it shows a picture of some girl in a really tight bra with her tits almost falling out and she is holding a bike part. there seems to be no problem with these pictures.

but then DoctorZ decides he wants to add a picture of a girl somewhat bending over with a little bit of cleavage showing (if you look at his profile quickly you can see a little thumbnail version of the picture) and a little sentence thing underneath saying "you can stare at them all you like but your eyes will get dry" or something like that. it was deleted once, he wasn't given a reason, he added it again. he added it 7 times all of the getting deleted (he didn't add them all at once).

i don't think its fair that Kakah gets to add dozens of photos that are worse then the things that are getting deleted for "porn" that are added by a normal user.

another thing that i don't like is how the MODS seem to be added (in my eyes). some of the mods were added because they post all over the site, are nice, and don't flame people. but a few of them seemed to be added because they made friends with the MODS in the old-schoolers threads but rarely posted anywhere else and if they did, it was just a normal comment.

the last thing i don't like is that some of the MODS don't post at all in the forums, and if they do its probably nothing too special". i think some of the MODS that are slowly moving away from the site should be replaced by other users who are loyal to the site and helpful.

I like the little improvement that when you are writing a post, you can see the last 3 posts before yours but when you quote someone, why can't you see the last 3 posts anymore? I think it should be on everything, even if your quoting.

Edit. Point taken. I agree with the Corey's mom stuff. Is it possible to institute some kind of feature that scans new threads (titles and content) for "how much is X and Y worth"? That would probably ease the load on Mods and with less to do, I think they'd do their jobs far better.

Word. I was actually wondering that too.

Also, there are talking smiley adds that make sounds when you mouse over them. That shit is so annoying.

I may be wrong but I believe this thread is about problems with moderation and how the site is run, not how the site is set up. Use the improvements forum for that stuff.

Ditto. Especially the last one. I have 2 potential replacements that come to mind (one in a time zone that needs it the most) if anyone cares to ask.

Also, the join date should be brought back, I really don't see why it was taken away to begin with.

Nothing else comes to mind at this moment. I'z tired.

Deanne said they had a problem with it, and that all new users had a join date of 1969 or something like that.

The join date is there but there is currently an issue with new members. Older members have the right date, new members I think it defaulted to 1969.

One other thing is that I believe the OS members should be moderated just the same as anyone else. There were way too many times in the original threads where a new person would post and get automatically flamed. To the best of my knowledge I never saw any action taken against this with the exception of the final guy who got it shut down. But in general, many of the OS members post on the site as if their shit smells sweeter than everyone elses.

In my defense, I always posted like that, OS had nothing to do with it.

In all seriousness though, I think the death of OS and its subsequent replacement with the Bar was a good step forward.

I've always posted like that, I just joined OS because that's where it seemed to be more common. I don't get why the Bar is better. It inconveniences me every few days, until I can find it and subscribe. It's mostly OS posters, a few have joined and a few have dropped out. What's the difference?

Oh and my shit smells great.
