Just got an SX trail 1 and it has a marzocchi 55. The 55 is a nice shock but i cant help thinking i can do better. I was looking at some Fox talas's, anyone know any other shocks that would go well with the SX Trail for DH/Freeride?

I've got a Fox 36 Van on mine and it suits the bike well. Just don't go over 180mm (7in) because I think it voids the warranty.

for dh/freeride?.. some form of 66 or totem... you cant go wrong with most variations of either depending on your budget.

I had 66 rc2x 07s on mine then... it was brilliant.
Now im riding a demo with fox 40s and if 36s are anything like them... id say try to get some Wink ) Fox just outperforms marz imo. Although marzocchi was a great company i had the 66 sl ata, 66 rv, 66 rc2x (all very nice forks) and 66 rcv 08 (that was a piece of sh*t). don't know about totems...^^

they work pretty well, although lyrik would be a good choice also.

I have run a 66rc2x 170mm, 66rv 180mm,66rc 160mm ,888 ata 200mm and a 36 talas 160mm.

Talas beats them all IMO and IME.ALso the bike is best balanced with a 160mm or 170mm fork. Any bigger and it takes away from the sxtrails handling.

I disagree Wink
No point in arguing my point though... all i'm saying is that my SX had totems on, and it was phenominal

fox does make some of the best forks, but the dampening on rockshox is just rediculous. so tunable.. so plushhhhhCool i think they are the closeest thing to the buttery fox feel. if fox made a burly single crown with 180mm travel (which they should) it would be the totem. imo its the best fork for a freeride/dh sx trail, and i should knoooww

Totems do void the warranty by 5mm, so that sucks. I put totems on mine anyway, cause specialized makes strong bikes.

Me experience is that if you want a playful bike, good for jumps, pumping and your a smooth rider go for the 55s that you have or fox 36.

If you want a "swallow everything bike" go with totems or 66s.
