Yea, I used a grinder once. Gotta be careful not to slip and hit the frame though.

If you dont have a split link then break one link and then after you need to put the chain back on, spend $4 on a split link and replace the link that you broke out with the split link... Thats what I would do. Big Grin

in all seriuosness the tool is essential and there are a few multi-tools that have a chain breaker and several other functions. Crank Bros has one that has that and 19 other different tools and Specialized has one too. imho you really should invest in one as your "bike swiss army knife" er whatever ,..you wont regret ittup

I agree, use a punch and a hammer, i do it and it works well. Put a small nut underneath the link as well.

Get a new chain with a master link so this won't be a problem again.
