Just a website I thought might be useful to the cross country/all mountain types.

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php

When you go for an XC loop, you can create it on there, and find how far you've gone, elevation changes and so on. Then you can save it for future reference/use. I thinks its brilliant, and could be used between people on the forums to show different routes you want to share and so on.

Heres one I did the other day-

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=8591

By the way, the start/end point isn't where I live, we just happened to meet up there. Razz

EDIT:

When the page is up, click 'toggle maps' so the ordnance survey map is the larger one, then you can see bridleways and contour lines more easily.

ha, the road i started/ended on was VERY steep, so the points i put werent exactly at the same point, so it had a slight difference :p

don't know, but if you know sheffield, some roads are really steep. If you zoom on on the map you can see the points are about 2 houses width apart

I use an App on the iPhone called Trails, It uses the GPS receiver and plots the ride. you can email the map and view it in Google Earth or on the Everytrail website

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=294973

Also you can upload other peoples maps to your phone and ride their ride.

isn't technology great Big Grin

ps Sheffield is ruddy steep

There is also an application for android based phones that does the same
length, altitude changes, max speed, average speed etc
and you can save routes
