Pretty much got it, the 888 is a freeride fork. Much stronger and able to take bigger hits then the boxxer. The boxxers is far lighter and more DH oriented. I cant comment on preformace of the boxxer i own a 888. Although having riden a boxxer for a short run, i do prefer the 888.
Howerever the responces you get will all be biased as many people love or hate marzocchi. If you have an 888 i would stick with it. IF your not sure have ago on a freinds see which you prefer.
i have an 888 and i love it, on the other hand i would like to have a boxxer world cup, but my 888 has never failed me and is a very trustworthy fork, u can bottom it out from the biggest drops to flat and it wont break
^ hence the 888 being a far better reliable big drop FR fork that while suited to DH racing is prolly beat on the course by the boXXer cuz those are pretty light so for racing i like the foX40 or the boXXer but for big mountain free riding 888 beats all... and if they lighten it up some like for next year boXXers gonna have to come back with more than just some stanchion stickers lol

^ ya i kno they r sweet but dont tell anyone i said that haha i mean im lucky cuz my crew has lots of diff big rigs and i have ridden many diff dh / fr setups (fox 40s boxxers diff gens up to current) over the years and i am still pretty hooked on marz stuff maybe if i wasnt just freeriding all the time and DH racing occasionally and was serious racer boy i would prolly have a 2010 boXXer and prolly a diff frame haha
