These are a few of the best drummers I believe: Dennis Chambers, Chad Wackerman, Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy, Virgil Donati, Terry Bozzio, Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Keith Moon. Oh I got much more, but these should get you into a rythym. No machines, dubbs, or maximum speed sound production here, just pure high quality drumming, you know, the kind that takes hours of practice everyday, for years, hey, kinda like freeride progression- back-flip/tailwhip/360!

my kit:

Pearl Export SE 10-12-16-22 Remo ambassador coated all around with 2 powerstroke 3's on the bass.
D-Sound Knight snare, 14X6,
Yamaha StageCustom brass snare 14X6
DW 7000 double pedal
Meinl Rake 12'' hats
10'' Sabian HH sound control crash
16'' Sabian AAXplosion crash
18'' Sabian AAXtreme chinese
21'' SAbian HH raw bell ride

I was about to buy a new hit a coupla years back but before I decided to rip off the old, ugly, yellowed vinyl wrap that covered the shells. I sanded them fixed some holes, stained them the nice colour you see there and finnished it off with some marine-quality urethane varnish.
Turns out it sounded so good after all that work that I decided to keep it as my main kit.

Anyone have any advice on what kit i can buy. I want to play all genres but mostly rock and metal. Anywhere between 400 to 600 dollars?

A Pearl Export.

Or if your happy with a used kit then get any old kit but buy some new heads for it.
