Well with the leaves falling and the weather getting colder, racing for the year is over....riding however is still going on.
After being on the Furax all summer I can honestly say that it is one of the funnest if not the most fun bike I have ever ridden. The geo is spot on for racing. With its slack head angles, long wheelbase, and 8 inches of travel front and rear the bike is a machine on the race course. All this allows you carry more speed, brake less and instill confidence in yourself.
While this year was not my best year for race results (crashed in the first 3 races of the year) once I got comfortable on the bike and learned what areas I can push it in, I could start to feel the bike becoming more and more condusive to my riding style and how it would react in terms with my body position.
I had a crash up @ Blue Mountain at the beginning of Aug. which saw me fracture my wrist, so the bike sat for the rest of the race season. Since being back on it though this fall the bike feels as comfortable as it ever has and has continued to work flawlessly for the entire season.
This bike was designed to be a race bike, so if you are looking to chuck monster drops and ride skinnies look elsewhere. If you want a bike that is durable, simple to maintain, and want to race on it then this bike (or frame) is something that you should DEFINATELY consider.
In terms of cons of the bike there are only 2 that I have noticed over the season. One, the suspension system is a single pivot, once it got super tech and rocky on the trail the suspension wasn't as active under braking as if you weren't applying the brakes, that is not just a downfall for this bike in particular, but all single pivot designs that I know of.
Two, the paint. The paint of my downtube has seen better dyas, it seemed that it would flake off if a rock looked at it the wrong way! I have been told that there was an error with the early btaches of bikes and the the problem has been fixed.
There is a brief overview, if anyone has any particular questions I'll do my best ot answer them.
I just put a Elka Stage 5 rear shock in last night to test out for a couple weeks and I rebuilt my boxxer...I am interested to see how it feels with the Elka
These are def. one of the sexiest bikes on the market. The geo is one of the best for downhill with the 63 degree head angle. Up at Bromont, Qc i've defiantly seen a popularity in the bikes.
