Some of my friends do amazing things with camera phones. I don't often use mine though as I think the iPhone 4 struggles a great deal with colours and contrast, especially compared to a 5 or 5s. Also I almost always have my DSLR with me when something interesting is around to shoot, so I kinda default to that and forget about the phone.

yeah my phone is alright for well lit photos but otherwise it kinda sucks, you can see it struggled a bit with the clouds as well.

It's been a while since I checked this thread
Damn is all i have to say, some absolutely killer shots in the last couple hundred posts.

And I'm getting back into it, been shooting a bit recenty, nothing noteworthy but at the end of the month I'm moving up to NYC which is photo heaven compared to a suburb of Dallas.

Anyone have any experience with grad nds? Can't decide between hard and soft edge 2&3 stop ones. Any advice?

I really like that last shot!

I'm shooting my first ever roll of color film right now, some Fujicolor PRO 400H I got a killer deal on. It'll be interesting to see the results.

Also, if anyone needs some wireless flashes.

Iv got some experience with the Cokin P series.

Now I would consider what your shooting to decide on hard and soft grads. If using to balance land and sky the important factor would be the harshness of the horizon line.

for example a hard edge grad would work on a sea horizon as it is for arguments sake, flat.

Softer grads work well on mountains and other uneven landscapes.

Grads tend to slot into a holder and can be stacker if your worried about strength of light blocking. I don't know about other brands but the cokin one rotates which is useful if your stood on the side of a mountain or anywhere with a sloping floor to compensate for..

Ok, sweet, thanks.
I will be shooting both sea and mountains where I'm going (and at home), so I went with the 3 stop hard and soft and 2 stop soft.

And yeah, I got the cokin filter holder, so I can do that.

I'm heading to Southern California in two weeks time for a month, can anyone recommend any locations that I should hit up?
I'll be staying in Long Beach and will have a car, so I can travel a reasonable distance
