Got my X2 in the mail, put it on this afternoon. Needing to set it up properly, but first impressions tell me that it is lightyears ahead of my Cane Creek.
What pressure did you end up at? Also you put the shock on backwards
For some reason i cant get it to 30% sag, i keep upping the pressure and its continuously right around 40%. Not happy so far. Also cant get the air canister off to put a spacer in, its really on there. urrrgggg. im at 205psi (checked the scale and im only 190lbs), still 37.5% sag. if i flip the climb switch on, it sits right at 25%, so maybe im supposed to be at 30% with climb switch on? i doubt that but just asking to be sure. Really hoping this thing doesnt end up being a nightmare to set up.
dont worry i flipped it around the way its supposed to go
update; so i figured out that the little screw to take apart the air can is stripped, thats why it wasn't working for me. the air can also seems to be leaking oil so I'm going to try and return it and get a dhx2. less hassle.

Thats incredibly odd, I have never heard of so many issues on a new shock. Was the screw already stripped or did you strip it? what makes you think the aircan is leaking?

Pretty sure it arrived stripped, i would put a 1.5mm allen key in and it would just turn freely. Im thinking the aircan is leaking cause i weigh 190 and i have to put it up to 225psi just to get proper sag, and also there seems to always be oil on the shock body after i wipe it all off.
I think im just going to return it to the shop and exchange for a dhx2, there are a few threads on mtbr that have the same issue as me (not the stripped screw, have no idea whats up with that)

Obviously do what you want and the stripped screw is obviously an issue but considering you are running 10 more PSI then I am and weigh 10 more pounds on the same frame with the same fork (looks like you are running a 36 a 160mm?) that seams in line. As for the oil generally when shocks or forks are new or serviced they will put a skim of slick honey or oil on the wiper this will leave a residue on the stanchion for the first week so doesn't seem to me like you have any issue other then a stripped screw which does suck...

Ended up going for a longer ride today, after i FINALLY got the screw off. Shock already has the 2 spacers they say is “max amount”. I finally got it to set up at 30%, at 210 psi, which is odd considering i weigh 190 and it already has two volume spacers in it. The oil wasn’t on the wiper, it was on the actual shock body, like near the screw and stuff. But anyways, shock felt pretty good, needing a bit more tuning but i’ll keep it if i can’t exchange.
So I’m 190lbs running an X2 on a Hightower I’m running 220psi with 4 tokens in. Not sure where you get the 2 max from? I find it an absolutely joy on the Hightower if I’m honest! Albeit I would always prefer coil...sadly Hightower doesn’t work well with coil I’m told.

you must be using the 2" stroke version. for the 2.25" stroke, fox says 2 volume spacers max.

I'm running a DBCoil IL on my Hightower and loving it. I'm 205lbs and the soak up is just so much more plush and predictable. Plus the set it and forget it ease of a coil is nice.
Yeah I ran a coil on my Jeffsy which suited a coil perfectly (I had an in-line coil) but as I understand it the Hightower is not progressive enough to get the best from a coil. Hence fitting an X2, not saying it wouldn’t work just that it is not best suited. Hence my choice

update; shop is going to send me a new screw as i decided to just keep the x2. apparently they installed 2 spacers before sending it to me, and the screw must have gotten stripped there.
Seems like set ups are pretty varied for everyone that has posted on here, Im still finding where i want to be but holy shit, the shock is running great. There is a double near my house that i usually barely make when hitting, and today i hit it with the new X2, the bike had so much pop. i over-did it by about 5 feet and ending up nearly eating shit but it feels amazing on jumps. I have it at 24 clicks of LSR, so it's like really good for jumping. the LSC still feels a little high, as i'm used to not having a climb switch, so tomorrow i'm going to put it up to like 20 clicks for that extra plushness over small bumps (i'm at 16-17 i think now). HSC feels good at 17 clicks, i have yet to bottom the shock and no tire rub! I honestly have no idea what to do with HSR so i'm just running it as recommended from Fox.
BITD I returned a newish FOX RP3 shock due to excess fluid and oh yeah a blown seal in cold weather riding only to be told it's fine, that is assembly fluid on shock shaft so all good but I felt a right muppet.
