I'm thinking about building a blue Hightower with a silver Pike Ultimate actually. Assuming I can sell my SJ for a decent amount.

Fox was getting up in age, No Evol air spring etc. wanted to start fresh - Z1 is incredibly cheap.

Thought it would look worse, turned out kinda rad.

Fork is also 180mm vs 170. So far only one big ride but im pretty impressed, I would put Grip above Fit 4 and on par with RC2. The adjustment range is super noticeable on trail. Rides high, super plush.

Nomad V4 Marzocchi Z.1 180mm

Hi how has been your experience with the Marzocchi Z1 ? i just bought a new Alu nomad frame. I'm a set it and forget it kind of rider and have an option to buy the 180mm fork at $400. Some review i read that nomad should be ridden with atleast a Lyrik fork to really appreciate its nature etc etc. So was wondering if i should save up and buy a lyrik or just go ahead n buy this steal dealSmile

Anyone has suggestions on this pls let me know.

I don't have any personal experience with the Z1, but the main difference between it and a current 36 is that the Z1 has the Grip damper vs the Grip 2 on the 36 and it's a bit heavier because it uses 6000 series aluminum vs 7000 series on the 36. IMO the Grip damper is a great damper and will perform slightly better than any low end Lyrik and slightly worse than say a brand new Lyrik Ultimate. If weight (~150g) isn't a factor, and I'd assume it's not since you're putting it on an aluminum nomad, then I'd save the money and go with the Z1. Yes you'll gain a bit of performance and shed a bit of weight going with a new Lyric or 36, but it's going to cost over double and I would suggest it's not worth the cost.

my mega Fab

quite stock R spec except lyrik, enve riser, megneg and cranks from my old bike. Also got full gx drivetrain I'm in the middle of swapping when I run out of miles on those nx parts.

after the long cold winter is over also thinking of getting lighter set of trail wheels and keeping those hefty stock ones for lift runs

Two cracked in 6 months. Carbon has been great so far! Nearly a two pound weight difference as well...
