Lol, right?! California is a joke for getting shit done. Also while I'm glad they got one. It's clear they didn't get a biker to design it. Too bad really. So much potential there.imagine if they had Velosolutions doing the job!

Doesn't look too bad honestly. But what SoCal really needs is a revamp of the trail systems out here or a good quality built BIKE PARK! Not another sub-par skatepark that is built just to say a town has one. Most of the skateparks out here are for skaters and small anyhow. Or no more small pump tracks either (to my knowlege LA+surrounding doesn't have one). An actual bike park designed on a slight slope with a pumptrack and progressively bigger jump lines. Paved pump tracks are rad, skates and all can ride so it fills the need for both skaters and bikers. But for some reason bikers are the bastard children of skateparks and trails (even though most work would be done by bikers to make sustainable multi-use if we were allowed to). Sorry for the rant.. lol. Orange County has the opportunity to build a bike park!! https://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=197207&pagenum=1#commentid6454331 The city council just needs to know that it will be used and there is a need for it. The only reason cities don't like to build such things is if they don't get used. YO Send a letter it takes 10 minutes and lets them know people are really interested in it, thats the first thing they look at.

It can really help if a bike park design contractor gives a presentation, showing all the projects they've built.
Cities are used to doing things by hiring contractors.
People think cities are all about listening to citizens' good ideas. Not really! City officials don't have the mental bandwidth to process all the different types of suggestions, wants, desires, complaints, rants, etc. that the public comes to them with. City council public meetings are just big venting sessions where the public feels special because they get to talk. They accomplish very little, besides just showing a general vague support for a topic.
The City wants a single voice that will promise that all interest groups will be represented etc. and that all headaches will be removed. Unfortunately, sometimes what ends up happening is that if a lame contractor gets in there, you end up with the lame skatepark you were talking about. The City officials have no independent way to know what's better about one skatepark or bikepark design or another.
So your number one priority as a bike park activist is getting the correct design/build contractor to show up in your town to do the presentation. If you want something that looks like Valmont, then get Alpine Bike Parks to show up. http://alpinebikeparks.com/project/valmont-bike-park
