FINALLY RELEVANT CONTENT FROM PINKBIKE. It would be great to see more of this type of content and reviews about new and exciting dog MTB products. Four Pedal Mouth Steer Technology needs to be developed and the industry is awful quiet about this. I'm here to ask the real questions. Small human puppies get these amazing bikes and the dog contingent is left outside with nary a rawhide in sight.

WARNING!!! If that’s the same Mexican Mutt that was tied up outside the Fox (clothing) tent last year, it bit my dog-loving mother and broke a blood vessel in her hand. Subsequently, I was trying to tell the people at Fox to have the owner attend to it and take it home because it was growling and barking and biting at numerous other passers by, including kids. But the people at Fox just gave me the runaround while the dog continued to completely flip-out at people (which, being a former Fox factory team rider was disappointing to have them do that). Someone at Fox discretely told the owner and he snuck out, but I saw him I talked to him and told him what happened and let him know we weren’t pissed off, but that he should find a better place to tie up his dog (rather than next to a busy walkway right in the center of the Crankworx plaza by the Fitzsimmons lift) where it doesn’t feel threatened nor the need to be aggressive and/or bite people. He just left it there for hours, it appeared unattended, until the dog got so agitated that it flipped out and went berserk. Pretty irresponsible if you ask me, being a dog owner.
  • 11 1
I have a hard enough time with the crowds at Crankworx, my dog, would have a really hard time with that much noise and activity.
  • 5 8
Sydney has NEVER attacked anyone, not a person not a dog, nothing. And she was never left not attended by the Fox booth.

And sorry to hear about your mum but maybe people should ask first and not jump on every dog to pet them without asking if they are friendly. That’s called common sense.
  • 6 4
The owner of Sydney is a she. So your story is bull. Sorry buddy
  • 3 1
Note I said “If it’s the same” dog — the dog looked virtually identical and was laying outside the Fox tent last year on those same Whistler Village paving bricks in the picture, and the owner was Canadian. So being that it was a male owner, obviously it’s not the same dog. But anyhow, if a dog isn’t people-friendly, it shouldn’t be tied up unattended around hundreds, even thousands of people, like that dog last year. Period. Keep the dog with you if there’s a risk of it flipping out. That’s what I do — not because my goldens might unexpectedly bite someone because of their temperment, but because they might defend themselves if an aggressive dog is super aggressive to them or if one attacked them...and then there could be a dust-up between dogs and an owner or passer by could get bitten if they tried to pull the dogs apart. It’s just not very smart to leave a dog unattended at a place like Crankworx. And as for “not jumping” on dogs, well, that’s never the case with my mother. They were filming me doing berm-exit-jump manual-to-nose-wheelies on the last berm over several takes over 20 minutes and she just happened to pet it after it nicely smelled her hand and seemed completely okay with her standing near it for about 20 minutes, otherwise unattended in the hot sun. But glad to hear it’s not Sydney...but it was a very similar looking dog owned by a dude who knows the Fox people, who was also Canadian. So my “story” is not bull. I can show you a picture of the dog and my mother’s swollen hand with the bruised tooth marks, if you’d like.
  • 3 1
Just checked pictures and also sent a pic of Syndney to my mother — although your dog has almost indistinguishable markings and the same exact upward-looking friendly expression, the dog that bit her is a shade or two darker in the brown areas. Either way, be careful if you see that other dog! The owner said it had never bitten anyone...and judging by my experience recently with NUMEROUS dogs being super aggressive with me while riding or walking my bike, I think bikes in general can make some dogs uncomfortable if they’re not super familiar with bikes. I’m talking 7 dogs this summer at a leash-only park where all the owners let their dogs off leash. Even last night I had a light English Golden FREAK out (off leash) even once I got off my bike and held out my hand. Although it wasn’t bearing teeth, it was sure going nuts and the owner said it isn’t used to bikes and freaks out (maybe a good reason to put it on a leash in a biking / hiking leash-only park, haha). But anyhow, glad it’s not Syndney. I’ll edit that comment if I can figure out how...

BTW, it was Wednesday August 16 last year at Fox’s “Private Event” per their sign — so definitely a member or friend of the Fox family, as he’d been in there for a while. I did get to see Todd Hicks for the first time since Travis Pastrana and I were on the team in 99, so that was fun, despite not being able to find the owner at Fox tent (while being horrified by the dog furiously lunging at anything that came close to it for those several minutes) =o

Ender is my favorite. There's an Australian Cattle dog at the local dog park that is so awesome. I love my dog to pieces but should one need a home I'd be hard pressed to pass on that opportunity.

I have two of them (brother and sister we rescued) that allow us to house and feed them. They are the raddest dogs around! Smile

  • 7 2
I love dogs on trails.. I hate big steamers on the trails though.. my wife rode through a wet one the other day in the middle of the trail, it was bone dry on the trails yet looked like she rode thorugh a mud puddle, sprayed all up her back, gross!!!
  • 4 1
Me, not a fan of them on trails. Looks cool in all those pro YouTube videos but a bit difficult to manage sometimes.
  • 3 0
@bartb: my a*shole neighbors refuse to pick up their dog's poop. They never poop in their own yard though. Like animals , dislike poop. It's a huge problem nobody seems to address. I don't want to ride with fenders on my even though it's dry as a bone 8 months out of the year!
  • 1 2
@Beez177: I was riding at RMNP in Manitoba last september (great trails Dead Ox Trailblazers) and there was so much bear poop from bears eating berries in some sections that it was spraying in my eyes on the lower part of "Reeve's Ravine" When I got to the bottom I realized it had even sprayed into my mouth. I just wish people would scoop up after their bears.
My partner rode by a big black bear that day, and our Husky X Charlie didn't even care he just kept running.
  • 1 0
@acrowe: not a lot bears where I live, just irresponsible dog owners that poop in the middle of the trail, or bag it and leave it for someone else to pick up...

Mike and I recently found out we have similar looking dogs, my dog is way faster but his dog looks really tough, like a Chuck Norris type of rugged!
  • 10 0
@Bomadics: 29" dogs are way faster*
  • 6 0
@shaked: Yes my dog is totally 29", part greyhound, crazy long legs!
  • 2 0
@Bomadics: Now 29" dogs haters will come.
  • 2 0
@shaked: My dog is 20" but wide trail feet (WT) with modern GEO,you know...It climb like a goat,no front legs in the air no matter how steep it is...good thing dogs never flat!
  • 2 0
@homerjm: Throwing a 20" dog is way easier than a 29er one, but I don't think ASPCA will love that
  • 2 0
@shaked: My dog is an American Cocker Spaniel from Slovenia. It is a crazy fit dog,it can hoop more than 1 meter rocks and jump over fences like any other 29" big dog. It loves air time and makes backflips and 360º like a good 20" dog. Bad thing is the long air,it is a magnet from leaves&little trail sticks and those short&wide legs are not good for top speed...

next one should be rider profiles for the strider bike races

My lab used to love hitting the trails with me - she's a bit too old for the miles now. She looks so sad when I head for the shed.
  • 2 0
It's a sad day when there aren't any Alaskan Malamutes in the dog photos. Here's a picture of our dog Kona out walking the local mountain bike trail (Grand Ridge). I tried riding with him a few times, but any time he sees another dog he'd rather leave me and go play with them instead
