On May 4th-6th Ranchstyle will kick off its second year as a Silver level stop on the FMB World Tour in Grand Junction, Co. The crew from Grassroots Cycles have teamed up with event powerhouse Big Mountain Events to elevate Ranchstyle to an even higher level. Conceived in 2008, Ranchstyle's down-home feel has been what has made the event a favorite for so many athletes. Although the event is taking on some new shape for 2012 the core values of the event will stay the same. A true rider grown event, Ranchstyle looks to once again be at the top of freeride events in North America. Proof that Ranchstyle is beginning to gain recognition on a worldwide platform, the Slopestyle winner will receive a Wild Card to the Red Bull Berg Line at the IXS Dirtmasters in Winterberg, Germany on May 19th....all you have to do is win!
"For us Ranchstyle has always been about doing what we could to progress the sport and get people stoked to get on a bike." said Grassroots Cycles owner Matt Bollig. "We've always worked to design and build a course that is super fun for the Pro athletes, but can be ridden by the amateurs as well. Progression is huge for us, we want the up and comers to have a place they can ride and compete. The past few years we have made some major improvements to our event which has brought in bigger names and more athletes in general, making for a more exciting event. We always try to improve the event from year to year, and this year is no exception. Last year was our first year on the FMB, and we plan to once again show why Ranchstyle is worthy of a spot on such a prestigious world tour.”
For course designer and "Minister of Flow" James Flatten, the Ranchstyle course is all about the riders. “We want to keep the course fresh for those riders that are returning and at the same time want riders that have never been here to be completely stoked on the course layout.” says Flatten. “Our course is different than those at most other comps because we don't level the course and start from scratch every year. The course is more of an evolution from year to year, with features being added and removed, lips get bigger, trannys get taller and the whole thing just keeps growing"
The Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour hosts events all around the world, only a handful of which will be in North America. Ranchstyle has been selected to be one of the few Silver events in the U.S. this year. What does that mean? It means Ranchstyle will continue to be a FMB points event that will draw more big name riders to Colorado to battle it out on the unique course at The Ranch. Not only will FMB tour points be up for grabs, but some serious prize money will be on the line.
In addition to the main Slopestyle event, Ranchstyle hosts one of the best Dual Slalom races in the country, the MRP Super Slalom. Pinkbike will once again be the presenting sponsor for the Best Trick Throwdown. All voting on the Pinkbike Best Trick Throwdown will be done by the Pinkbike viewers with the winner being announced Saturday night after Slopestyle finals. Keep your eyes peeled here for your chance to vote!
