I keep seeing comments about it being free. No kidding its their business plan. Its not a nonprofit organization. Its as ludicrous as a person calling the local tv station and laying on the praise.
Its a cool website
Save your praise for Oprah
The "business plan" has very little to do with the user experience. And for us...the users...its FREE. Doesn't matter to me how they make their money as long as I get a free ride to watch cool videos, read reviews, and get the latest news without subscribing to a magazine or service.
The business plan is WHY its free. And aslo affects your experience from the movies you see to the reviews that are posted. Print magazines have a lot more overhead. And advertising rates are based on distribution. Its an online forum/magazine it has to be free or it wouldn't exist.
The day pinkbike becomes a pay only site is the last day i visit. The same goes for many more users. The money they could charge people to access content would not be enough to overcome the money lost from ad revenue due to a smaller audience.
You don't understand. I agree with you 100%. This is obvious. The issue I'm having with your statement is the part when you said "Its as ludicrous as a person calling the local tv station and laying on the praise." If that local TV station existed with out me paying a dime and the programming was exactly what I wanted, it wouldn't be ludicrous to "lay on the praise" at all. It just means I'm happy with their service they are providing me with out me paying any money.
I didn't go out there and do the work, categorize everything, make and collect articles and videos, I just hit a button on my screen and got exactly what I wanted. Im not ludicrous for thanking them, and I'll do it over and over again because this site makes me happy.
That was an awesome year. Fantastic to see all that one one page. The Don on the Bronson was my favorite vid this year. Thanks for the good work Pink Bike.
