Laying the cards on the table, admittedly Crankworx can be a bit of a zoo. Lucky for most, The Bearclaw Invitational this year falls the weekend after. Quite a few riders high-tailed it out of Whistler and over to Vancouver Island to spend some quality time at Claw's Compound to decompress over the last few days.

Clawpound quarter session.
  Clawpound quarter session.

This morning there was some solid practice that went in at Claw's place with people going off of the mulch jump, and through the jump line, There also some sort of pond jump belly flop contest, which had a solid makeshift trophy.

Ditch attempt

Lawn chairs and a mulch jump.

More yard Chilling
  Peanut Gallery

But, as life goes things ramp back up... Or at least you would hope so.

Now that we're nearing the weekend, things are winding back up quickly and today was a major change of pace from the previous scene. Everybody today moved into full contest mode, and started training and prepping for tomorrow's events, and Saturday's Finals. After all the fun went down, all the riders made their move from the palatial Clawpound that Darren calls home and up onto the mountain. Practice and final course preparation went into full swing, and there was a sparsity of lawn-chairs which kept everybody on their feet.

It was obvious where and when the light was going off on course.
It was obvious where and when the light was going off on course.

The course has had a bit of a refresh this year as well, with the addition of a hip, the removal of a jump up top in addition to a hitching post line.

New feature to the course.

Evening practice and some heavy tree leaning.

From here people bounced fairly rapidly once the light was gone and a riders meeting went down, the most important part of the meeting was Jordie Lunn having a birthday...

Just wait and see what you have to do when you turn 40. Frown

I want to like your comment @recklessness but I think 69 likes is the correct amount...

Not looking forward to turning 40! Better not feel the doc's hands on my shoulders!
  • + 3
Well your user name spells it out so... dont let him catch you on pinkbike.... m( jizz )

No Rheeder or Soderstrom = almost free win for semenuk if he can hold off pilgrim
  • + 6
I think it is less about him beating Pilgrim, but more can he put a clean run together. If he get down the hill clean and not have any problems I think he takes the win.
  • + 4
True, sad that two of the best fmb riders are injured at the same time
  • + 1
In any professional sport there is a ton of talent all around, but there is also that cream of the crop, the best of the best. When about half of those main guys go down season its really sad... it will be interesting to see if anybody tries to step up and succeeds.

They have a glimpse of Aggy in the video but no parts of his run!! Whyyyy??
  • + 27
He went to big he landed in the next state!
  • + 31
 *province
  • + 10
Geographically it is more likely for him to land in Washington than Alberta. Maybe he boosted to Alaska??
  • + 4
And no coverage of the belly flop contest!?!?
  • + 1
there are some funny videos of it on Geoff Gulevich's instagram!
  • + 9
if they're looking for some quiet after Crankworx, Mt Washington is certainly the place for it since they closed the bike park this year. I mean who needs cheering fans anyway...

I'm 100% for Clawworx but maybe its time to move it yo a venue that will draw more crowds.
  • + 3
This is a great venue you can stand course side top to bottom. It's the best Venue I have seen, it may not draw 20000 fans but that's whats cool about it.

Riders want to ride it and obviously sponsors are paying to support it with a $35K Purse.

I will head up tomorrow with my family for the day we've seen everyone.

its an invatational not a festival.. theres a difference. ones crazy with 100000 perople. the other is exclusive and normally small to make it more intense after something so big. like come on you want the bearclaw to be the same size as crankworx..

Does anyone know what type of pads Semenuk is wearing under his jeans? Thanks.
  • + 10
Who cares? Get a pair of pads right for you, not what the pros are riding jeez advertisers would rub their hands together upon hearing you
  • + 18
Well obviously you buy whatever fits you best, but pads that fit nicely under jeans are far and few between, hence why I imagine the OP asked for the brand.
  • + 6
He's a troy lee sponsored rider so it could be the 5450 knee
  • + 7
If you read the other comments you would know that harrisonball wants to know what pads fit well under jeans! Semenuk normally wears skinny jeans so his pads must fit underneath, therefore making them a good fit for harrisonball...
  • + 0
I know semenuk ran the poc vpd pads a couple years ago, not sure what he runs anymore though
  • + 5
He runs the 5450 sometimes, but recently been prototyping the new 'semenuk' signature knee pad Wink shhhhhhhh
  • + 3
Well dhftw, he cares because I imagine he wants to know what kind of pads can fit comfortably under jeans. Chill out man.
  • + 2
I'm just after some pads that will actually fit nicely under jeans like majority of the slope guys. So if anyone could kindly offer some advice on anything they have found good or know of the top guys wearing, it would be much appreciated.
  • + 2
I find the IXS stuff pretty slim line and works well under normal jeans, I don't wear super skinny jeans though! Smile
  • + 5
the poc vpd 2.0 knee pads are pretty slim as well...

Skinny profile, really comfy and fit easily under jeans. Just make sure you get the right size as they don't have straps.
  • + 2
volley ball knee pads, no joke.
  • + 1
 Real talk. Cheap too.
  • + 2
G-Form's super slim, and they work pretty well, but get something else for shin pads. The G-Form's do nothing on your shins...
  • + 4
In case anyone was wondering, the track used in the video is The Cell by C2C.
  • + 2
What a joke, biking events at a hill that doesn't even have riding anymore.
  • + 3
Oh to have that in my backyard
  • + 1
I'll be there tomorrow to take it all in. Can't wait! Looks like they have put in a lot of work to get it ready. thx for the shots!
  • + 3
Damn Semenuk has some major style. He just rides so smooth and clean!
  • + 2
 Andreu's 3 @ 1:35 = SICKNESS!

  • + 1

  • + 0

  • + 2

  • - 2
Semenuk has a Trek Ticket S with a custom paint job. (which is sick) That was not him, as frosty1365 has said.
