For me, 2013 has been an awesome year! As both a mountain bike racer and rider, I have had some of the best moments and experiences of my life and because of this, I wanted to share the story of my year. To do this I put together a small compilation of my favorite footage collected throughout the journey...

British 4x Series

My main focus for the year was on the British 4X Series. For the fourth year in a row I was riding for the 44Racing team, this year on board Diamondback Bicycles. After a solid winter of training on board the Diamondback Assault I was confident I could perform well in this years Senior category. The race season got off to a great with a second place at round one in Afan, Wales. Making podiums was my main aim for the year and provided a lot of motivation throughout the winter to keep on pushing to get faster so it was a big relief for things to work out as planned. I continued to make the podium for the next four rounds of the series. With your best five results counting towards the overall I finished off in second place in the Senior category of the British 4x Series.

4x Pro Tour - Fort William

Each year the one race I have to do is the 4x Pro Tour (Formerly UCI World Cup) in Fort William. Scotland is an amazing place and its awesome to be able to race alongside the downhill world cup. The crowd never disappoints in Fort William creating my favourite and most enjoyed event of the year. The track in Fort William is rough and really loose, I love the 4x tracks that are more mountain bike style so I always enjoy riding this track. Despite a disaster in qualifying, coming down in 37th, I was still through to Saturdays main race being drawn against former world champion Michael Prokop and my good friend and close rival, in the British 4x Series, Matt Hillyard. With a good first straight in the heat I was able to hold onto second place, behind Prokop, and move through to the next round. The next heat saw me up against Prokop, Duncan Ferries and my 44Racing team mate Joe Mallinson. As expected Prokop took the win in the heat leaving the three brits to battle it out for the last transfer spot. Mallo took second with me behind in third. This result placed me 24th for the event and my best result at an international race. I will be back to race Fort William again in 2014 and also hope to race a few more of the 4x Pro Tour series.

Chicksands Bike Park

Living only two miles away from one of the best spots in the country I spend a lot of my time away from racing riding at the Chicksands Bike Park. Chicksands has a great variety of trails, including; a national standard 4x track, pump track, dirt jumps, dual slalom and many downhill trails flowing along the sandy hillside. With such a good variety of trails Chicksands provides the perfect location to train in between races. Chicksands also has a great local scene with some very talented riders up there every weekend. A great group of friends to always ride with has provided some of the best memories and some really fun times. If you're ever at the bike park you also have to get a meal from the Truly Thai take away. Bubee makes the best post ride Pad Thai!!!

Alongside racing 4x I have also started to race a little bit of BMX. BMX racing supplements 4x very well, allowing more time to practice gate starts and gain experience of battling with other riders. Despite struggling to adjust to riding the twenty inch wheels, having always ridden twenty six, my skills on the little bike have drastically improved throughout the year. We were also very lucky to have our local BMX track, Royston, rebuilt by Clarke & Kent leaving us with one of the best tracks in the country and an amazing place to learn to ride BMX.

Maxxis Super-Enduro

The final big race of the year was to be the mountain bike race held alongside the Maxxis Super Enduro at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The idea for the event was to bring mountain biking into the stadiums to ride a cut down version of the motorcycle endurocross track. Coming from a background in motorcycle trials I was very excited to be one of the 32 riders picked to race the event. I had always wanted to watch one of the Super Enduro / Endurocross events so it was an amazing opportunity to be able to have a go at riding one as well. Sadly the mountainbike race didn't go as planned with the track getting torn apart by the motocross guys leaving some of the obstacles unrideable and left us having to run over them. Despite this, it was still an awesome experience, I really enjoyed being able to have a go at riding an enduro cross style track (an opportunity I never thought I'd have) aswell as being able to hang out with and meet some of my old motocross & trials hero's.

I would like to say a huge thank you to 44Racing and all of the teams sponsors for all the help and support in making 2013 a successful year.
