"Could this be the last jam here?"

I would happily travel to Aptos to lay down in front of the bulldozers!

Are the jumps open to the public all the time?

Nah, they say that every year.

Some bike company should buy this place and give it to the riders...! They took good care of it for years and it formed so many talented riders...!
This place should be considered as a "riders' heritage site".

Totally agreed, these kind of spots must be there for ever, the hard work done there is inspiration and cradle of many of the top existent and future riders. A extra effort by bike business companies should shine there. Good vibes guys!

@jimbsport Specialized would only buy it if they could sue anyone from that point on who built a dirt jump.

About 10 years ago there was a huge step in progression in skateboarding. all of a sudden every 8 year old could 3 flip, laser flip, hardflip, catch fat air out of the bowl and now the same thing is happening in the bike world! ride bikes ur whole life and all of a sudden everyone under 10 is better than you...... dammit!!!

I am a little perturbed about why there is literally not one picture of a female from this event? There was a women's comp, the "Sugar Showdown"... it's a skills class and jump comp that they have done a few years now, I was at SCMBF last year, and although I didn't participate in it, but there were ~20-30 women. I've seen a few photos from friends that were there and the ladies were definitely having a blast and riding a bunch... so why zero coverage? Lot's of pictures of little boys, but no women? Oh, excuse me, there was that one of a mom running...

My bad....it wasn't intentional. When I do something like this I need to try to ID all of the riders to write captions etc. Some of the shots were dropped because of that and others were cut while I was 'pruning' the story. And I didn't go back through and check to make sure I had more shots of women before I filed it. I'll remember that in the future, for sure.

Here's a shot I recently uploaded: www.pinkbike.com/photo/10848584

@ThreadKiller Thank you for your reply! I understand that normally being conscious of having shots of women is probably kind of a weird thing... and I didn't mean to come across as being pissed off, and if I did I am sorry about that! Honestly, I don't even usually don't usually notice if there is female representation, but for this specific event I knew there was quite a significant female participation and I have a few friends that were involved in putting it on. Thanks for putting up the picture of Cortney! She's one of my buddies from when I used to live in Tahoe, she was coaching the event that weekend. Thanks for making an honest effort to respond to my "complaint".. all the ladies appreciate it! Big Grin

Post Office site sin't really that big- per square inch that place has seen more action than Ron Jeremy's bed. What could they possibly build that would be better for general public than what's there already? Look at the number of people there having a blast - oh yeah.... Well done Herbs!! - your super whips are crazy.

Puts a down buzz on your day realizing kinds under 10 are probably better riders than yourself haha

Are the jumps going to be torn down?
  • 2 0
It's a possibility. They're supposed to build some kind of "village" on the site. It's been that way for a few years but nothing has happened. I would blame that on the economy. However, as the economy picks up, you might see the desire to build increase-there's been other new construction in the area which could drive that project too.

Here in Salt Lake, we just got the city to make the I Street jumps an official park. They were illegally built on some open space over 15 years ago and it has been a constant battle with the City government. I think what made it happen was the riders/builders got together and created an official group and went to city council showing how much support they had for the jumps.

I'm not sure what the ownership issues are at the POJ. I'm guessing because there's a developer involved, it's private and for it to be saved, someone would need to buy out the developer. As I say, I don't really know what the situation is. I hope it works out in favor of the jumps tho. I think they're a positive thing for the community.

The biggest problem is that the small amount of space it covers is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars just because of the area it is in.
  • 1 0
I bet it'd go for over a million. Such an awesome area.
