"Typical mountain weather" lived up to its reputation today, delivering a mixed bag for day 2 of the 2015 Canadian DH Championships at Sun Peaks Resort. Official training laps commenced at 10:00am, with racers across all categories pushing their limits and scoping lines.
By the time the registration office had closed the doors for the day, so to speak, a total of 217 racers had signed up to record their best time down the Sun Peaks race track.
With intensified traffic on the course over the past couple days the dust has picked up, and this new stretch of switchbacks down Cariboo ski run was keeping racers on their toes and slowing them down after the quicker stretch of DH.
Just as course training was coming to a close at 3:30pm the clouds that had been building and threatening finally gave way and delivered a sudden and powerful downpour, before being accompanied by thunder shortly after. As is resort policy in these situations the chairlift was closed to wait out the storm.
Although it has passed and blue skies prevail as I type this just after 6:30pm, the storm did stick around long enough to cancel the afternoon's seeding runs. Tomorrow is race day and will get underway 15 minutes prior to plan, with racing kicking off at 12 noon. Without seeding runs today, racers will drop in based on previous standing. Don't miss all the action up here at Sun Peaks Resort as some of Canada's fastest riders compete for the best times! Event details at
