by Pinkbike Staff
We've narrowed down the nominees to 32 and we are ready to get started. Without further adieu, here are the photos vying for the $10,000 in CASH from our sponsors: Trek Bikes and SRAM.

Check out the voting page

It s coming the 2015 Photo of the year contest.

The 5th annual Pinkbike Photo of the Year Contest voting is underway. The winner will join John Wellburn, Toby Cowley, Sterling Lorence and Christoph Laue in the PB Photo of the Year Hall of Fame and they could walk away with $5,000.

How Does it Work?

From thousands of nominated photos, 32 have been selected to pit against each other in a college basketball bracket-like showdown. At this point, it is up to you, the users, to vote on the match-ups. The photos with the most votes will move on to the next round. So 32 photos will narrow down to 16, then 8, 4, 2 until there is a single photo deemed the 2015 Trek Photo of the Year Powered by SRAM.

We shot this picture on our trip to Utah for Red Bull and a German TV show Wild Ones - Junge Helden . Due to the strict time schedule we had only three hours to build this hip in the afternoon and three hours to shoot the picture in the sunrise the next morning. But the sweat and tears were definitely worth it. It was a special experience for us to take the first freeride shot in Monument Valley. -

I thought that it could not get any better from last year, but their are some bangers in there this year.

 sean lee ftw
  • + 29
Meh. Some of the worst pics I've ever seen.

[puts glasses on]

Wait... HOLY S**T!!!
  • + 19
I seriously can't decide between some of these, they're all amazing
  • + 5
I sat there for a good three minutes trying to decide between the Bruno Long photo and the Laurence photo... Both so spectacular.. And the photo with the reflection of the bikes and riders on the lake... This is awesome
  • + 2
kinda wish they put some of the roosters head to head in round one.... don't get me wrong, all more than awesome pictures, the rooster just feels so 2015.
  • + 6
perfection at its highest level... ps: that one that you can only find the riders on the water shadow tho...
  • + 4
Im bummed that the Harrison Mendel photo where he rides through the ashes that was today's POD isnt on here! thats my favorite!
  • + 1
All excellent photographs. Give them all a prize. Trying to pick a favorite from all ifthese is going to be a useless excercise in popularity. Its mountain biking. Everybody who gets out there and starts their rides win.
  • + 2
sean lee's year this year !!!!
  • + 3
 Another vote for Sean Lee.
That is what I want all of my non riding friends to experience when / if they ever go riding with me.
  • + 2
As I started scrolling, I was like, oh this one will win, no, this one, no this one, not this one, damn! Too many good ones to choose from!
  • + 2
I was having a tough time deciding in the first round. Some match-ups were tough.
  • + 36
Im pretty sure that the pic by JB Liutard (17th from the top I believe) is the exact same location as the picture that won last year by Christoph Laue....just a different angle. Hmmm....
  • + 3
 Agree
  • + 3
 You are absolutely right
  • + 2
Probably not going to happen but can you imagine same hip jump winning 2 POYs in a row Big Grin
  • - 3
Yea I feel like he definitely out of contention due to repeat. I love the photo and if I didnt recognize the 3 trees, I would definitely pick that for top 5 Instead it looses almost all credibility
  • + 6
It is a totally different photo though.
  • - 1
Creative side of my brain says yes it is different, logical side says no it isn't. Just my thought, think he would have been given 10x the credit if it wasnt the exact same location as last years winner. If it was a 5th runner up and no one remembered, different story. I still love the photo!
  • + 29
I wish some of these photos werent up against each other!
  • + 1
Agreed, I feel like voting for five of them
  • + 1
Can we make sure matchup 10 is a dead tie so both have to advance!
  • + 1
Truth be told, at least this year's do not look staged , Im pleased
  • + 19
where is that guy going in the moab shot??

 No that was yeti!
  • + 2
Yeah snows melting. Think I'll ride there tomorrow. And try not to think about this vid.
  • + 3
I must say, that is a must watch. . . Slayer and boner jokes? F*ck ya
  • + 3
SteveDekker - maybe you will find the mystery girl out there?
  • + 4
The dude in the photo is Ian Flanders. Bummed to be the bringer of bad news but he passed away last year. Another rad mountain biker together with the greats in bike heaven.

www.independent.co.uk/news/people/ian-flanders-base-jumper-wingsuiter-and-extreme-sportsman-whose-speciality-was-riding-his-mountain-10473581.html
  • + 2
That sucks I did not know that. Several good friends killed base jumping, one on a wingsuit and one hangliding. Its always hard to fathom.
  • + 14
Looking at some of the photos, Pinkbike could make another competition called "Spot the bike" o_O
  • + 4
And so the debate resumes, does the main theme of the picture need to be a mountain bike. I vote yes!
  • - 2
Also, looking back at several of last years shoots I have to say everything starts to look the same. To much artsy stuff for my taste and MTB too much out of focus... Great nature shots btw... :'(
  • + 0
Liked most of these pictures more then the above:

  • - 3
 playboy vs swank?

swank always wins.
  • + 10
How do you even begin to narrow these down? So many great shots.

Also, why don’t some of these photographers bother to sharpen up their images? Always seems to be a number of not ‘tack sharp’ shots that make their way to the top. I’m no great photographer or anything but that always kinda bugs me. Do people just not know to do it? Am I missing something? I was always told to sharpen stuff up (at least use smart sharpen in PS) after the fact especially when it comes to digital photography. Maybe I’m misinformed but now when a photo isn’t sharp where it’s supposed to be in focus I can’t not notice it.
  • + 2
Maybe they are trying to avoid people stealing the image for print/sale without their permission? Could be res'd down.
  • + 1
Thanks for the reply but I’m referring to sharpness not resolution.
  • + 6
I know they're great shots, but I just can't bring myself to vote for a shot by SRAM or Scott Sports. I know that's biased, but I really want to support the little guys in the contest, not multi-million dollar companies. Unless they give the money to the photographer inside of the company? Mod(s) can you clarify?
  • + 0
 wrong post
  • + 9
nothing like seeing a guy flying a bike when looking out the kitchen window
  • + 5
What's the deal with the shots from Big Mountain, Kona, Scott, and Sram. Actual pro photographers shot those and likely licensed them to the corporations and they don't even get their name as the photographer in the contest? Lame.
  • + 1
If you look at the pictures on this page, not the voting page, it does have the name of the actual photographer. You would like to believe that 100% of the money goes to the photographer, but who knows.
  • + 4
Wow, that contest page is the LEAST mobile friendly page I've come across in a long time. C'mon PinkBike, if 'Dodgy Al's Antennae Repair Shop' can have a reactive site surely you guys can get your act together.
  • + 1
C'mon PinkBike, every damn thing you release has to work perfectly on my phone immediately or I'm going to be all butt-hurt about it.
  • + 8
@WasatchEnduro , apologies mate if it's too much to expect an online business to have a functional website.
  • + 2
It's a shame that the photographers names are visible - credit to them in due course naturally - but it would be nice to judge the photos for what they are, and not who took them.
  • + 2
So do it! Is it so hard to judge the photos without regard to who took them?
  • + 1
I must say I do agree on that one.
  • + 1
Then again...riders should also remain unnamed. Big names score, even if the photo is so-so.
  • + 5
YYYEEESSSS!!! My favorite time of year!
  • + 1
seriously? like better than rampage, better than world cups, world champs?
  • + 3
Why did I have to choose Stan Lee or John Wellburn right from the start? Those were my top two picks for POY, and one of them won't make it through to the 2nd round.
  • + 3
Wow... Maybe I'm a bit too harsh here, but there is definitely a picture that is far ahead of the rest.
  • + 1
 do tell, dont tease
  • + 2
Dave Trumpore vs. Christoph Laue. Hardest choice I've had to make in a long long time. Cheer for the incredible photos everyone!
  • + 3
Yeah, I think it would be better if everybody chose his own "best 16" then "best 8" and so on shots, and go from there.. Too many which I liked the most went against each other on round one Frown
  • + 3
im going to have such a hard time deciding..
  • + 2
all good. voted for the ones where the rider isn't doing the "bar turn tweak"
  • + 1
Really hard to choose. Almost every single of these photos is a winner in my book. Beautiful landscapes, great compositions, awesome action, excellent captures. Props to all!
  • + 3
My favourite PinkBike time of the year! Smile
  • + 2
I like the aledilullo photo myself. One does not simply ride into mordor indeed.
  • + 1
Super ultra impressive. Some of the best 'ever'. Congrats to all photographers (and their riders) who have an image in this elite grouping!
  • + 3
Holy fuckballs! They are all really great.
  • + 2
Split the 10k between 5 guys at least Smile there is too many pics of the year here ...
  • + 1
Some matches were to tide, because both pic are so good, and another matches were so boring
  • + 1
Sorry, but... *ado. "Adieu" is "goodbye", and nobody's going anywhere; these are great photos!
  • + 2

  • + 1

  • + 2
toooooo much for my brain ... can't make a choice
  • + 1
Hopfully first few rounds go better then last year... Some tragedies occurred, and lame ones made it through
  • + 1
I cant believe some of the photos I've voted against. nearly every photo in there made me make firework noises.
  • + 2
My right click save as just broke.
  • + 0
Joey Schusler for the win. But question. Did anybody understand that picture? The way I see, Joey sacrificed one guy to take a hell of a photo!!!
  • + 2
The more I look at Irmo Keizer's the more I like it.
  • + 2
Any way we can get some HD photos for download?
  • + 1
It is going to be way too hard to pick just one! They are all pretty amazing!
