Would love to attend! We used to live in Craig but now reside in Longmont. A little scared to make the big drive over there when they only allow 100 participants to register on the day of the event. Why promote something like this on pinkbike when the capacity and registration format is strongly in favor of the locals? The locals deserve first dibs but quite a risk for anyone wanting to come in from out of town,,,

I spent all that time making my spike tires last year and now we can't use them? Well damn

Yep... one of the big changes this year. We had such low turnout for the studded class last year we decided to abandon that class and focus on age classes. It should help keep the course in better shape too. There's a race at Howelsen Hill during the winter carnival where studs are a big advantage and definitely the setup to use. Our fastest qualifier last winter during the cool dual was on a fatbike even though several of our top riders were on studded bikes.

@TNewph: gotcha. I think me, Mike, Greg and maybe 4 other riders had spikes.

 Dirt jumper or trail bike?

Personally I'd go with a bit of travel. It can get rutted and traction is limited so the better your bike can stay in contact with the ground usually the better. More importantly is running larger tires. A fat bike won it last year and it was a hardtail but they also have lots of volume to absorb the terrain and a huge contact patch. I'd say a plus tire bike might do pretty well. Depends on conditions to some degree. It's not an overly steep course so being smooth and carrying speed is important.
