Whistler Opening Weekend was a banger - but what bikes did people bring? Were they new? Were they old? Were they borrowed? Wait...that's a different thing. From pro setups to Craiglist specials, we saw it all and now you can too. Enjoy!
Lol yes. Spent Sat at the local bike park. Saw a couple Yetis, S-Works, Intense, kids on insanely expensive bikes... And my buddy on his Stinky Dee-luxe. That was awesome.
I could never dump $10k straight onto a bike....... *realises he's spent more on buying parts to build a DH bike about seven years ago, and now owns a custom painted Yeti SB6c with Cane Creek suspension*
Just goes to show that bikes don't stop being fun just 'cause they aren't the latest model!
And yes I'd have a go on that Scooter thing... but I'd wear a paper bag over my hemet!
Was that Dennis on the Fury? Dood had the most vertical and runs at Whistler the past 2 years I think. He has to average like 12 or more runs every day to get over 1 million feet of vert.
@adrennan: Ditto that. First thought: What the freak IS that monstrosity? Second thought: That's actually sort of cool. That looks like it would be a lot of fun to try (key word there, try not buy)
@adrennan: looks like it would be immense fun. Low COG, no drivetrain getting in the way of the suspension working, complete freedom of movement on the bike.
Is that 2005 Stinky outdated ?Will the rider be able to go dooooowwwwnnnn the trails ? Will the rider keep that smile in the end of the day, week ....? No for the 1st and yes to the rest i´m sure
Awesome to see some pros and legends with regl'r folk!
Not one, but two Tioga saddles!
Scooter bike- no grip tape or pedal studs; edge of the stands/platforms should be rounded and padded. I could see some shins cut in half with that platform.
Guy with the 90 degree HA Salsa has been riding the park for 18 years, so he must have some serious skills.
Now let me conquer some 4' drops first and dream of Whistler...
Is it just me or do 26" bikes just look rediculous after seeing a bunch of modern bikes?? I used to ride a 26" for years as did anyone not new to the sport but anyone with a brain simply cannot argue the simple principal that a larger wheel rolls better/faster/smoother over obstacles. Just ask the 4WD guys if they would prefer 29" wheel or 35"s...
26" bikes are also often more nimble and easier to move... This is why many pilots were still using this wheel format at the last RB rampage. And I think a 26in bike is still a better option in a park than a 29"...But that's just my opinion.
My favourite article each yeah, last time i was there i was on a Stinky too ( yeah it was a while ago) , man i miss that place, it really is heaven on 2 wheels. Lots of single crown sleds out there, good to see. oh well, of to work now.
Actualy they can hold their own with plenty of modern brakes. I had a set on a old Intense Uzzi SLX until recently, and they worked perfect everytime, with plenty of power.
If you are referring to the bright red Big Hit, those were obviously not Purple Hayes, which had dark purple leverhousing and calipers. The brakes on the bike are regular Hayes HFX Mag, which were very good brakes at the time. But as you write, there are a lot of better alternatives today.
Congrats to those who made it to the opening!
All those people paid to be lifted and I wonder how many of them are opposed to eBike! Sorry to offend anyone but please don't be a hypocrite.
I'm an idiot.
Will the rider keep that smile in the end of the day, week ....?

Interesting - thanks for that.
