44 Racing Rockstar - British 4X Series Round 3 - Redhill

For the third round of the British 4x Series 44Racing travelled to Redhill, Gloucester, ready to do battle against their competition. The track had stayed the same as previous years but with super strong winds and dusty conditions it was sure to throw up some big surprises. Attracting a lot of attention in their Thor race kits, from Freestylextreme.com, the team were on the radar of the national circuit and looked favourites to perform well come racing.

Racing in the youth category was Connor Hudson. Showing he’d lost no confidence from a big crash in practise Chudson got off to a great start in his first moto with a second place. In his next heat Connor was caught up with another rider in the tight first corner. Hunting down the pack with great track speed Chudson moved through the places, taking the win. A feat he repeated again in his final race, transferring him into the semi finals. With the tougher of the two heats it looked difficult for Connor to progress any further. Getting off to an okay start in third Connor was set on making it into the main, gaining on the leading pair throughout the track Hudson was able to out power Alex Ruther to the inside line and ensure himself a spot in the A final.

Also in the youth category was Bardolph Kerr. Coming off the back of a great result at the last round of the National BMX series Kerr was riding well and got off to a great start with a moto win. With a big crash in the first corner Bard was forced to settle for a third place in his next race. Making up for this in his final heat Kerr went on to win and therefore transferred into the semis. With great power out of the gate Bard led throughout his semi final and took the win and moved into the final to join his team mate.

The youth A final was going to be a great race with the two 44Racing riders qualified and guaranteed a spot on the podium. With the four riders going into turn one side by side there was no chance they would all make it out. The pack went down as the riders all moved over looking for the fastest, inside, line with the race getting settled on who could get going first. Trapped at the bottom of the pile Connor Hudson finished in fourth, his first National podium and a brilliant result. Backing up an already good start to the season Bardolph Kerr finished third.

Next up was Joe Mallinson, racing in the junior category. Mallo kicked off his days racing with two seconds and a win in his motos. With good results Joe had progressed through to the quarter finals. Using some sneaky inside line Joe was able to cut off the rest of pack coming out of the first turn. Holding on for second place here, and again in his semi final, Mallo moved through to the A final. Getting a bad gate Joe sat in fourth place coming into the first corner. Using the same inside line, as in his previous heats, Mallo moved into the lead, bringing the trailing riders to a complete stop. Not looking back Joe powered away from the group taking the overall win. A first for the Rockstar Energy Drink athlete!

In the senior category was Jack Hudson. Having had some great battles in the motos Jack moved on into the quarter finals with two seconds and a third. Only enough for third choice of gate Hudson would start on the outside going into the first corner. Despite having a great start and leading through the first straight Hudson was pushed wide into fourth. Unable to make up the places to transfer through Hudson was knocked out and finished a disappointing 14th.

Joining the other riders was team mechanic Phil Neil in the big fun category. Racing for the first time in three years Phil showed no signs of slowing down with two wins and a third securing himself a spot in the quarters. Putting up a good fight for the lead he finished second but would still move on in the event. With only the top two transferring to the main all was to play for in the semi finals. Getting squeezed out in turn one Phil was forced to settle for third but would still take part in the B final. With the four riders battling for the last spot on the podium Phil came out of the first corner, and onto the faster part of the track, in second place. Unable to make a move for the win Phil stayed there, finishing 6th overall.

The team will split next weekend with select riders racing the Halo British Downhill Series at Glencoe or 661 Mini DH at Chicksands.
