With a big gap in the national calendar 44Racing headed to Fort William for the fourth, and penultimate, round of the 4x Pro Tour Series. For the second time this season the Pro Tour was partnered alongside the UCI DH series and looked set to bring in some huge crowds. Racing for the team was Rockstar Energy Drink athlete Joe Mallinson and Jack Hudson.
First practise began Thursday evening. With very little going on throughout the day it was impressive to see such a big crowd all ready starting to show. Once underway both riders seemed to be having a lot of fun, enjoying the track, and knocking out plenty of runs, trying to escape the midges. Catching the attention of the World Cup circuit, in their Thor race kits, the team continued to get their lines dialled in ready for the following days qualifying.

Having had all day to relax, watching the downhill training, Jack & ‘Mallo’ were feeling good ready for the evenings qualifying session. After another hour of practise the pair was confident and looking fast on the challenging track. With only one run to get things done and make it through to Saturday’s main event everything was to play for. Putting in two super fast runs the pair qualified for the head to head racing. Joe came down in 43rd with Jack slightly behind in 51st.
Saturday came with both riders stoked to be in the evening’s event. As the sun set the riders began to session the track, now searching for race lines and looking for overtaking opportunities, as the crowd skittled down from the downhill course and began to fill the arena. As racing begun it looked difficult to progress to the further heats, with both riders drawn in stacked motos facing some of the best riders in the world. First up was Joe Mallinson, sitting in third most the way down the track ‘Mallo’ was still close to the leading pair. Putting a move in on the penultimate corner Joe was able to take second and progress to the next heat. Despite getting a good snap and battling along the first straight Hudson finished fourth and was forced to the side lines to support his team mate.

As each round progressed the field of riders was getting smaller and smaller with only the top athletes left making for some great racing and super tough competition. With a super hard heat Mallinson was unable to make it into the top two and was therefore knocked out of the racing. Making it through to the second round placed Joe in 32nd overall....a fantastic result for only his second time racing at international level!
The next 4x race for the team will be at Redhill Extreme for the third round of the British 4x Series.
