Fort William 4X ProTour Qualifying - Fort William

Qualifying has just taken place here at Fort William in Scotland. Under blue skies, the track is incredibly dry and dusty which is making it tricky for all the riders. Loose rocks and technical jumps are certainly making the track tough for the riders and spectacular for the spectators.

First up in qualifying it was the women. The 2015 4X World Championships bronze medalist, German rider Steffi Marth took the fastest time ahead of Monet Adams and Hannah Escott.

In the men's, it was Czech rider Tomas Slavik who laid down the qualifying gauntlet ahead of teammate Felix Beckeman with Quentin Derbier in 3rd. British home crowd hopes will lie with Scott Beaumont and Alex Metcalfe who finished 4th and 5th respectively.

The race will take place after World Cup downhill qualifying tomorrow afternoon. The weather forecast is again set to be dry and sunny so we are expecting record crowds to line this amazing 4X track here in the Scottish highlands.

Full race report will be live after the finals. We can't wait to watch this one unfold.....

I'd like to see some bike checks from 4X. It's all foreign to me, but it looks exciting.

4x Bikes are very much like dirt jumpers except with longer wheel bases. so longer chainstays and top tubes for stability at speed. usually they run a gear set up very similar to a DH bike and have about 80-120mm of travel. but yes a bike check on pinkbike here would be really cool! i would love to see that. maybe we can get some 4x going here in the states again. I used to love racing 4X years ago.

@rumblefish255: 4X/DS is the only MTB event I've ever managed to win a few races in. I'd LOVE to see more coverage and some bike checks too. Such a fun side of the sport, and you'd think it would be incredibly TV friendly too.

Trouble is, it just doesn't see the sponsorship of DH, I guess. I mean, look at that bloody logo. It's atrocious. Surely that's what's holding it all back? Smile

YES! With a lack of companies making 4X specific parts nowerdays. A lot of bikes are using parts from All disciplines. DH, XC, DJ an not unusual to see a few Road parts

More coverage of 4x bikes would be great. I would guess they are all still 26 also. 4x bikes make fun woodland tharsher bikes or bikes for the bmx track also. I love my dialled bikes holeshot. Lyrik u turn on the front so wound right down for the bmx track and oit at 140 for trail thrashing.

4X in general is just beautiful, it is everything a sport should be. I don't understand why it hasn't more coverage from the media.

imo 4x is one of the most exciting races. It's a shame that UCI has kicked 4x out of world cup.

@nojzilla: I was wondering how many neg props UCI would get if they have an official account on PB. However, their memorial activity for Stevie worth praises.

 Woaw 15seconds tracks ,,,,
  • 3 1
Haa, if you actually look at the time when they start and finish its more like 45 to 50 seconds, nice try at counting Razz

@Joebohobo: metaphore to say it s so short ... ! It s longer here in belgium
  • 2 0
@RedBurn: Ah okay, isn't that just because malmedy is so much longer than any other track though?
  • 2 0
@Joebohobo: could be Big Grin its more entertaining imo because much more can happen
  • 2 0
@RedBurn: Meh, I'd disagree, I raced there for the pro tour last year and since it's so long everyone gets too spread out by the bottom so now much can happen imo, prefer a normal length track (like fort william) where lots of action happens

@Joebohobo: you must be right then .. Smile never raced four cross but i d like too
