Great cause and rad bike. Cancer took my younger brother earlier this year, so F#ck cancer.
  • 45 0
Sorry about your loss watchtower, considering the age in your profile, it must have been far too soon to go. Cancer took my mother when she was 41...
  • 14 0
Sorry to hear that, the same with my uncle three years ago. I honestly don’t mind which cancer research we’re donating towards. If they find a cure towards one part of the body I’m sure the rest will follow
  • 12 1
@gunners1: It's a horrible decease. No matter which kind.
But I do think breast cancer gets too much attention. While colon, pancreatic and lung cancer still have the highest fatallity rates (atleast here in Denmark).

When my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2001, it was effectivly a death sentence. And treatment types have not changes much since. Unfortunately.
  • 20 1
@SkipSkovhugger: sorry for your losses. My father, 2 aunts and my best friends all died form cancer in a two year period. My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. In the US breast cancer is a big deal. October is breast cancer awareness month and everyone wears pink ribbons. I can’t even keep typing without crying and think of all that it has taken away from me and close people around me. f*ck Cancer.
  • 6 0
@Krzymndyd: Very sorry to hear that Krzymndyd Frown
I don't know the statistics in the US. But here it's one in three, will either get cancer or have someone next of kin get it.
That's a very large part of the populous...
  • 3 0
@SkipSkovhugger: IIRC, over here pancreatic is the death sentence out of those three... but of course it depends on the stage to some extent... it's all horrible and more common than some may think. Frown Sorry about your mom.
  • 2 0
Sorry to hear about your lost one! It runs in my family as well, such an awful thing cancer is. Love programs like this to raise money!
  • 1 0
@SkipSkovhugger: The pink ribbon takes no licensing whatsoever to use, too many companies have hopped on the marketing bandwagon and made it seem like the only cancer that gets focused by charity and research. Such is not the case. What's really going on is just a lot of companies and entities trying to earn social credit by supporting a cause.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. What color ribbon is it for lung cancer? My brother has/had a brain tumor, for brain cancer the ribbon color is grey. Boring, but logical I have to admit.
  • 1 0
@LoganKM1982: brain tumor for me personally, is the scariest form. I really hope your brother is in the clear? Og not, then I hope he pulls through.

Lung cancer's ribbon is "clear" or white.
But the reason why I believe that breast cancer gets a not too much attention, is that here in Denmark. We have one yearly national fund raiser. And it's not for general cancer research, it's solely for breast cancer. And is called "Support the breasts" :-P

I'm not against that, at all. Don't get me wrong, all funding is great. But it very one sided here.

Good cause for sure. Why don’t you review Evil bikes?
  • 54 1
 Thats the real question.
  • 64 11
Probably because Evil don’t have the money to spend for a good review like Trek, Specialized and Giant
  • 8 0
@heavyp: they reviewed the insurgent a couple years ago.
  • 34 15
PB: Please review the Wreckoning LB instead of doing articles on XC bikes!
  • 51 1
Evil probably rather donate a bike to cancer than sending it to bike mags. They do well enough off word of mouth anyways.
  • 15 5
@garygrimm: In all fairness, the Wreck LB isn't really any different than the original Wreckoning.

Please review the new Park Edition Wreckoning!!! This could not be a more “Pinkbike” style of bike.

Dual Crown, waterbottle mount, and threaded BB!

www.evil-bikes.com/products/insurgent-wreckoning-lb-park-bike
  • 18 1
@Yahh it's not for lack of trying! We've been trying to get one in for testing the last few months.

@heavyp we do not sell reviews, and we review lots of bikes from brands that aren't advertisers. We strive to be fair in all our reviews, and there are lots of brands that are nervous about sending us test bikes because the stakes are so high.

@garygrimm the Wreckoning Park Edition is exactly what we've been trying to make happen, interesting bike for sure. We're not going to stop reviewing more XC-oriented bikes as well though.

Why does it always have to be about breast cancer? I’m not trying to be an ass about this but there other types of cancer we also need funding for. Breast cancer gets a lot of lime light and I just want to see the other types get some support as well.
  • 7 2
From their website "Young Survival Coalition (YSC) was founded in 1998 by three young women who were under the age of 35 when diagnosed. They were discouraged by the lack of resources available and the under- representation of young women in breast cancer research. Today, YSC is the go-to organization for young women facing a breast cancer diagnosis."
  • 6 1
My wife got cancer diagnosis last year at age 34. How? Fondling husband found a lump.
Breast cancer survival rates are way up, and they have many tools to treat it. It's selfish but things might've turned out differently for my wife if there hadn't been so much attention (and money) paid to breast cancer funding.
  • 2 0
@Olimac: Get invovlved with YSC. My wife was diagnosed 3 years ago at the same age. Your right about survival but it's a long road (5-10 yrs at best). Good luck to you and the wife man and hang in there as we know there are days it's not easy.
  • 2 0
Agreed, I had major lymphoma a year ago... Stem cell transplant saved me. Dudes get cancer as well, kids do too! Hodgkins, lymphoma, brain... I know pink is cool and pink sells and everyone loves boobies, but lots of areas could use donations like this... awesome bike by the way.
  • 25 0
Thanks Evil and PB for staying involved! My wife was diagnosed 3 years ago. We celebrated all kinds of 3 year anniversaries this summer... dianosis, surgeries, chemo etc...

Things are on the up and up! She and I joined up as a team and are actually doing the full 3 days of YSC West Coast Tour de Pink (200 mile YSC Fundraising ride). We've raised just over $4k between the two of us for the ride. We don't have a cool ass bike to put up, rather gonna let people watch us anguish in sweat and pain over 200 miles.

Super proud of the wife for making the 200 mile commitment only 3 years after diagnosis.

So the wife, and mother of 3, got diagnosed last month (41 y.o.), got news both breasts are coming off last week, and will be getting sliced up just as this contest is wrapping up. She’s a hell of a rider, and is gonna be getting a new MTB to celebrate kicking cancers ass whether we win it or buy it. As for cancer, f*ck it.

I have THREE close friends battling cancer right now, and another who succumbed earlier this year. So I’m definitely pitching in!
  • 7 1
Can anyone point me to a statement of what they do with the money towards the cancer cause? Their website is ambiguous and doesnt definitively state anything of the sort that I could find, only says 'make a statement' by donating from what i see. I see here it says "fund support and education" but that is still far too ambiguous IMO.
  • 1 0
Oh nevermind. The programs page is blank, at least it's pretty well rated.
  • 3 2
@ZappBrannigan: Very informative section on Wiki, though it negates the element of awareness that is created by displaying the pink ribbon, regardless of the revenue it creates for cancer research. Educating the public to be more aware of screening initiatives is just as important as diagnosis and treatment itself.
  • 12 2

Anyways, having somebody pass close to me due to cancer, f*ck cancer and f*ck businesses that ride the 'cancer-profit' wagon.

Interesting to me how the majority of people are still in darkness surrounding how to actually beat cancer, and how so "awareness" campaigns only raise awareness about how bad of a disease it is, but do nothing to educate about cure and prevention. Maybe those at Evil will wise up and donate the money raise here to a place that is actually making a difference.
Just a few good pages to raise your awareness on cancer:

I'd like to donate, but refuse to provide my PayPal login to their website. Buying from online shops I'm directly redirected to PayPal itself. Why isn't that possible here ?
  • 2 0
Dude - really? The PayPal part of it is directly through the secure PayPal site -check the URL when you click pay.
  • 1 0
 @endlessblockades:
When I tried to donate via mobile phone, the following happened:
1. Press 'Donate'.
2. Fill in all required fields
3. Select PayPal and press 'Donate now'
4. Press 'Log in'
5. Log in to PayPal
6. I'm redirected to the previous site, where I have to provide my PayPal credentials again.

Step 6 was what bothered me. I tried again several times and today was the first time I wasn't asked to login again. I've now donated successfully, but still find it strange that I had to login to two different places before.
  • 1 0
@Mac1987: Hmmm, the URL I am directed to at step 4 is an HTTPS site owned by PayPal. Maybe you are thinking where you enter your name is a log in screen? Just enter any bogus creds, hit Donate and you are directed to the PP site for login. ystourdepink is not capturing your PP login creds. I just tried it on my phone to see and it's legit.
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: no at step 5 I logged in to PayPal and at step 6 I was asked for my username and password again.
This seemed to be a temporary glitch though, because when I tried again today I was not asked again for my credentials and could directly donate after logging in to PayPal.

Probably be more inclined to buy a ticket if it didn't say F all over it. Don't get me wrong cancer charities are great I just think they could have picked a better name.
  • 15 11
 No kidding, my exact thought.
  • 30 3
Yeah, I really hate when I win something I don't want which is worth lots of money after giving a comparatively small amount of money to a good cause. If only there was process and tools which allowed me turn (or trade?) that thing I didn't want in for significantly more money than the initial investment which could then be put towards anything else I wanted. I feel like there could even be a link to such a tool on this website...that would be awesome.

Alternatively it would be really sweet if decals were removable instead of being permanent.

Nobody is getting my money until someone solves the above.
  • 30 15
who gives a fuck. always amazed by the things Americans can get offended by.
  • 9 7
@bootyslap1: @rockchomper: Glad to see someone else has the same mindset. If I win, I migt just swap the decals for something without profanity. Smile
  • 2 2

  • 6 0
@austinTRON: One step at a time, lets not get too advanced.
  • 2 3
 @tkrug:
1. Win the bike.
2. Sell the bike at a discount and you will still be ahead unless you buy more than 2000+/- entries.
3. Take the money from your sale and get whatever you want.
4. If you keep the bike the decals are easily removed.
  • 7 3
Win the bike Carefully remove the decals Throw the bike in the trash Place the decals on your refrigerator Have something even more ridiculous to complain about It even comes with a second set of decals for you to put on your car or truck windshield.
  • 12 4
The bike and the free stickers they give away don't actually say FUCK anywhere. It's a ribbon in place of the U. The implication may well offend church-goers, though, I can understand that, but cancer doesn't give a fuck.
  • 3 1
@endlessblockades: It's not super obvious, but it does. Like you, I at first thought it was just the ribbon, which is still iffy (not desirable for me, but I know others have different standards) but it actually does say it, I just glanced to double check and found a few instances fairly quickly, mostly the linkage area and parts of the stays/tube around that.
  • 4 2
@mtbikeaddict: I didn't realize that, and respectfully withdraw my earlier remark. I used to not give a fvck but as I've Ive gotten older I do feel a twinge of creep about upsetting the church ladies of the world. I'm getting soft. Fvck Cancer

Each time this fundraiser comes up, it is evident how many people here have been touched by cancer both directly and indirectly. I am appreciative of those who are willing to share their stories here. Most recently, we lost my brother-in-law to cancer. He had multiple disabilities and was blown off by medical professionals because he was a challenging patient They should have been able to diagnose and treat him. He had a form of easily treatable cancer that spread quickly and took him from us. He was a kind soul, a loving uncle to my children, and person who loved life. Information is power. Thank you for sharing your stories PBers.

Just to precise something in case you didn't notice :

In other words : if, for example, you live in Europe, you will probably have to pay the VAT on a 7k $ bike. Think of it.
