Far from their usual habitat of northern Britain, the 50to01 boys fly round the world to Japan for an all-time road trip. Join Sam Dale, Craig Evans, Loosedog and Mark Scott for the ride.
Stoked to bring you our Japan roadtrip video. Thanks to all the locals for looking after us so well along the way: Satoshi, Yuki, Hajime... you boys are the best. Thanks to Santa Cruz bikes for making the trip possible. Thumbnail photo Gary Perkin. Enjoy!!—50to01
great song choice! riding mint as usual. that steep wall ride from craig was mental. they rode that nice trail from that matt hunter video with jinya. 5010 as weapon of choice like always :-) but i miss ratboy!
@crashalot13: Ummmm No I live in Fukuoka area! Or Kitakyushy area! I think Kanagawa is way north of me 4-5 hours by bullet train! Why, are you in Kanagawa area? Or are you going that way soon?
@crashalot13: I moved to the Kanagawa prefecture in July. Started riding and figuring things out in the area mid September. There are some good trails here for sure. I still have so much to learn. Fujiten runs a fun park. There are are some trails in the Yokosuka area. There is stuff all over. I have only scratched surface.
@timrippeth: I go there for work occasionally. I've wanted to ride while there but didn't know where to start. I tried looking up trails online but I can't read japanese so I didn't get very far.
Yes, unfortunately the internet here in Japan loses English translations very fast. Especially since Japan doesn't have really any fortified trails other than a few ski resorts. Everything else is probably had made and hidden to each local group of riders, if any?
At least in Tokyo and Kanagawa prefecture, bikers are suffering from hiker activists to ban riding in mountain trails. Maybe bikers are treated like e-bikes in US / California? Hikers want you to ride in bike parks like Fujimi or Fujiten. Bikers stay very low key when they ride trails. If you are lucky to reach out local riders (few speak English tough, they can read pretty well), they may take you to trail.
@crashalot13: There is a cool group of expats and some locals that rides and does some stewardship in the area. Next time you are here for work, if you think about it, look me up. I will do what I can to connect you with some riding.
No rakes needed; trails of that type are ancient hull roads treaded down by men and cattle over centuries. (which obviously is why you do not know them from Canada where there were few agricultural settlements 1000 years ago) Modifying them in any way probably offends some cultural heritage law.
@donkey74: Yeah, known as the North and populated by northerners to some, it certainly isn't physically in 'northern half of Britain' as per the description. I think a similar thing is played out in other places, such as Norway, Sweden and Germany where 'notherners' occupy far more territory that 'southerners' rather than just the area physically above half way up the country, there are probably others. Of course, if you ask someone from the top of Britain or even the top of England, then these dudes are southern softies. Anyway, just remember. above the Watford Gap, it's grim.
