Friday November 5th was the first official day of the AT Showdown. I pulled in early with the parking lot nearly empty at the Cow Palace. I popped open the trunk of my rental car, loaded up my camera bag to head towards the course. As I made my way down to the course, I saw a few riders packing and shaping away making sure everything was ready by practice time.
Read More InsideWhen I hiked up to the top of the hill I was mesmerized by the size of the course. When AT said he likes big jumps, he really meant it. When riders hike to the top of the hill and drop in, they roll in to a 25 plus foot drop, which leads right in to a 35 plus foot jump. Which is about the same size as last years.
After the 35 foot booter, riders take a high reach on the 10 plus foot step up.
When the riders step off, they go in to their choice of lines (hipping left or right followed by a S-Berm followed by jump out of the berm. Or if you go strait, it leads in to a long and low). With so many different line options, it leaves room for riders to get creative.
And as the riders come in, they are sent to the moon with an 8-foot-quarter.
After making my walk through, it is amazing what AT and his friends have done compared to last year. With watching the riders throw down it practice, finals is going to be crazy.
A sneak peak on what is to come
There seems to be a horrible blue cast on them not helped by some strange barrel distortion!
