We Are Family 2 - Episode 1 with Andreu Lacondeguy

Feb 15, 2011
by Ian Hylands
Barcelona, Spain, February 15th – The perfect Valentine’s gift comes from Andreu Lacondeguy this year. Together with the crew from Black Media, Andreu shot We Are Family 2
photo

The fact that no jump is big enough for Andreu is not really news to anyone. The course that was built at La Fenasosa near the city of Alicante in Spain is ample proof of that, since the dimensions are according to his taste: huge. Andreu gets rip jumps that were built specifically according to his wishes and are the perfect fit for him and his never-before seen stunts on a massive scale. After three days of building, it is clear to see how much fun he has on his very own perfect playground: one trick is more mind-blowing than the next – be it a nacnac flatspin, backflip tsunami or a double backflip.

The makers of the clip, Black Media, are a production crew that Andreau co-founded himself. Together with his friends Sebas Romero (a well-known action sports and lifestyle photographer), Pablo Moreno (a freelance editor, photographer and freerider), as well as Mito and Javi Echevarria, they are also the producers and masterminds behind the first We Are Family film.

As the clip was shot last year, we still see Andreu riding his old Kona bike. Ever since the Red Bull Rampage, he has been tricking it on his brand new Mondraker as you’ll be able to see in his upcoming video projects. Only a few weeks ago, Andreu traveled over the ocean to visit Cam White and rip the massive jumps in his Australian backyard. The action coming to your screen from down under will definitely be something to gasp at. On top of that, Andreu obviously won’t miss the chance to ride Masters of Dirt in Graz, Vienna and Ljubljana. So there is plenty of Andreu action coming our way in 2011!

is anyone sure he's actually human Razz ?

Well judging by the size of the speed gap before the trick booter......and video never does justice to the size or slope! I always thought of it like rich guy's do toys.........he who dies with the biggest trick WINS! Andreu is a bit of a winner i'd say!

that slo-mo was sick, unbelievable quality.

screen shot from the slow-mo are now my background

no he dosn't man, his sponsors pay him the big bucks to get out there and ride his bike at the comps and win, really hard to win when you don't ride. and if he dosnt land something he blames it on the course or the wind, like at rampage the flip tuck no he under rotated he blamed that on the wind, but the wind had no effect on it.
  • 6 0
^^^^^Wait a minute man! so what you are saying is that it's lame if he blames the wind, but not when YOU DO??
Was that not you who said eight comments up, that you went from 10 to 17, and almost broke your neck.....BECAUSE OF THE WIND!!!. If you are going to flame somebody, at least do it with some thought beforehand. If anything, this guy, and others like him who go that huge, are helping to progress the sport, and if they don't feel comfortable with something, those who do not have the skills that they do, have no room to judge!! Just my opinion.

ahhh shit man , i just looked at your profile brett im sorry. you are from ontario . there are no mountains there , i was just joking about the tight pant thing but there it is, bmx over a stair set as your pod.. i see where you are coming from , its cool its cool, i like little bikes too.. did you check out that double front over the 70 in the x-games saweeeet!
  • 1 4
thats because the wind blew me out sideways, he blamed the wind on stopping his rotation and correct me if im wrong but i have never heard of that happening till that moment

This needs to be VOD even though it's not from PB

euro orgy sex party music, cool... gets me pumped to ride (my woman not my bike).

Is it just me? Or is this the sickest video ever??? Drool
  • 1 0
I think that too, watch this non-stop Smile
  • 4 1
Why is the pinkbike video quality so bad compared to Vimeo?!
Awesome video though, loved it. Cant wait for the next episodes!
  • 3 2
This is an embed of the Vimeo vid, so you're actually watching exactly the same thing... I think it's just simply a bandwidth issue, too many people watching it in HD right now....
  • 4 0
well, that makes me look pretty stupid... haha
In general though, videos like FRAMED looked way better in the Vimeo HD version, at least i thought so?
  • 6 0
Yes, in general videos on Vimeo look better than on Pinkbike at the moment. The reason for that is that Vimeo hosts HD videos, and Pinkbike doesn't. This is simply due to bandwidth issues and cost, it would cost a small fortune to host all the Pinkbike videos in HD

 Go hylands! Dummies.

Brett.... Billy....... shut up.

Yes yes im late to the conversation.

This guy sends it big no matter what.... Ya ya he talks trash, so what hes no humble. He doesn't have to be. He clearly has "little man syndrome" that makes him think hes god. Most little dudes do. And some think they don't but they do. No matter what though we have to agree that he will shred circles around us so hard, we would suck his wedding vegies for some of that talent.

  • 3 0
I'd like to see Andreu ride with Dane Searls on the set that's in the Giants of Dirt series. That would be one sick video.
  • 2 1
Those were some BIG moves! But that soundtrack: LOLWTF?!?!? I've heard some crappy music in mtb videos but this takes the cake!
  • 3 1
unreal... like holy shit man... unbelievable riding and the filming was just top notch i'm so impressed right now
  • 4 1
Andreu is the KING, screw all the haters
  • 3 0
lacondeguy always goes big! he's my fav rider now!
  • 3 1
That is awesome - mtb is at another level now. This makes crankworx jumps look like a joke lol
  • 1 2
There arn't many comps that have massive jumps because your not gonna land every trick on them and wont do as big of tricks over a 50 ft gap that you will on a 20 ft gap. The judges are looking for consistency of landing tricks not guys getting thrashed on massive jumps because they were trying a crazy trick over a massive gap
  • 2 1
Agreed brett. I didn't see much of anything happen after he landed any BIG trick he did. I'm basically saying he has only one trick and can't link up anything else after it. But if you think about it, putting massive 50 footers one after another really doesn't make for much of a course. You could maybe only fit 3 to 4 of them in the crankworx boneyard... but hey, at least Mr. Laycondeygay would be happy, if he shows up... and its not windy...
  • 3 0
I think that with time the jumps will grow and grow. Guys like Montgomery, Lacondeguy, etc. will hopefully push the sport in the direction of full-face helmet sized jumps. Personally, I don't want to see a triple whip over a twenty foot gap, thats for bmx; what I want to see is what is in this video. Massive airs with floaty tricks. Like the Red Bull Rampage of dirt jumping.
  • 2 5
Do you think what you wanna see means anything to the pros? They don't wanna have to go out and kill themselves on a 50 ft gap when they can still progress the sport on 20-30 footers. Im speaking from experience when i say that big jumps can be brutal, i went from hitting a 10 footer to a 17 ft on a super windy day and almost broke my neck. not saying that 17 ft is big for most people but for me it was. Now imagine if the wind can throw me around on a 17 footer what do you think is gonna happen on a 40-50 foot gap. if you wanna go out and send a huge line of 40-50 footers go for it.
  • 4 0
haha I think you should calm down first of all. Obviously I don't think the pros will care what I want to see. I'm just saying my opinion just like everyone else on this site. And clearly some pros want to send it on big lines. Why is the rampage around then? Zink just 360'd a 50 foot drop and there was a 60 foot canyon gap! Or look at Semenuk's line in Disorder 10. There are plenty of examples of pros sending man sized jumps.
  • 4 2
you dont see the moto guys being bitches , and i dont see rampage guys being bitches, so why brett? why are you being a bitch? awww brett is worried about us.. thats so sweet! its ok brett , i have been jumping 60 / 70 foot jumps since 1997 and i am not even pro , also i am still doing it (not mangled). even as an old man of 37 . i dont even consider myself good. and im not being a bitch.

Hey squishy, you do know the size of bag of that mans tricks? dude, fatter than santa! with a bigger bag to boot!! sell your whine at the next cheeze party not in the respect booth that is this mans video.
  • 2 3
@jv, but what tricks are they sending over the gaps? not very big ones, the only thing that makes those tricks big is the gap size. You ever seen someone tailwhip a 60 foot gap? @billy, the reason moto guys arnt bitches is because they have motors and their bikes are much more stable than a mountain bike or bmx. and thats great you can send stuff that big, go pull a tailwhip or a super man over those gaps and then you will prove me wrong
  • 2 0
where is brett? you should come visit the farm dude! will get you all pumped up on the big stuff i am from ontario too.

  • 2 3
SO SICK im so stoked, these jumps are so huge, andreu doesnt ride pretty much competition cause he's a big level on top of the others riders, when he ride, he ride for reel and he ride it big, one word, GNARLY!!
  • 2 0
So good! Great video, editing, and music!
  • 14 14
That was crazy, absolutely massive! Those tricks had so much extension and lots of MX influence. Andreu might be a bit of a douche but his riding is amazing.
  • 7 2
neg props because I said he's a bit of a douche I'm guessing. Well it's true, If you turn up to comps and then have a hissy fit and not compete you are a bit of a douche in my opinion.
  • 2 5
 why is he a douche?
  • 7 2
not so much of a douche as the biggest bitch in mountain biking, don't get me wrong i love watching him ride. But he never rides in comps because he didn't get to design the course so everything is to small for him or not up to his standards so he bitches out of the comp. Amazing rider but the guy needs a reality check, the world doesn't work exactly the way you want it to so shut the fuck up about the course and go ride it.
  • 6 0
fuk that ! i dont even tell people i am a mountain biker because this sport has so many tight pant wearing posers more worried about how there gear looks then how to ride a bike. and the ones that do ride ok might as well be bmx riders from the early 90's. this sport need a tune up and that dude would take us there if there were more then five dudes man enough to compete with that kind of progression.Big fan Andreu!! RESPECT! and if you ever need a place to stay in kamloops BC canada come to my farm. i have bigger shit then that to ride .
  • 3 0
 billy-bike-club i couldn't agree with you more.
  • 6 1
No-one wants to land badly on big gaps - if the rider doesn't want to risk his neck for whatever reason, then that is the rider's perogative and people should respect that decision.

When I used to DJ, I never did it on windy days because it screwed with my head. Nor would I jump ANYTHING that wasn't built to a certain standard. And I wasn't doing stuff anywhere near the size that Andreu is doing.

As mountain bikers a wrong decision could cost us skin, bones, the use of our legs, or our lives. Never disresepect any other mountain biker's decision not to ride, jump or drop. The bigger the stunt, the worse the consequences. And when sponsors are involved, sure the rider has a duty to perform, but the rider also has a duty to LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES. Example: Rachel Atherton - a bad riding decision cost her and her sponsors dearly.
  • 1 3
but the thing with anreau is its not big enough for him to ride, not the other way around. he has no excuse for not riding. he was riding at rampage in probably some of the worst conditions for bikeing and no complaints till "the wind" messed up his tuck no back flip.
  • 3 2
maybe he isnt riding to make you happy , maybe he shows up at an event to show you his double back flip and the comp terrain is not equipped to support his level of riding.. "not a big enough jump to pull off a double back flip" especially since he might even have a triple in mind..i call that a waste of time management he could of stayed home and worked on his progression .. not ride this event that supports bunny hop tail whips. to protest an event might wake a few people up .. like the ladies say SIZE MATTERS . you can have that t shirt idea . you can wear that in the skate park you ride your so called Mountain bike in. im just playin brett. but there is always two sides to the coin.
  • 2 2
I don't know if you realize this billy, but his job is mountain biking. If I showed up to work and had a little bitch fit about how I wasn't working because of whatever reason I would likely be fired. Complete disrespect to his sponsors to show up and act that way.... yeah okay, great way to represent the people who put food on your table there Andreau. He is expected to represent, not go and sit at the bar and make fun of the course builders, riders, etc. (Remember, a large part of sponsorships is public relations)

I would say he is a bit of a douche, plain and simple. Although he is exciting to watch in videos, I'll give him that.
  • 1 0
you think this sport pays.. im sure he rollin in it.. besides, when the sport does change and people catch up with his progression and the park comps size up because of his protest, his sponsors will cash in then. poster child cash will be more abundant if he sticks to his program of up setting the scene and backing with fat riding. ima go order me a unit tee in the morning..
  • 1 0
also i dont see how conforming and bowing to our sponsors is always good for the sport.. and maybe he was. you think oakly wants there boy sitting in last place because he is not a radical jibber.. who is to say it wasnt there call to pull him knowing its not his game out there on the street course.. maybe he is a douche but ill give him the benefit of the doubt until i meet the guy.. is douche originally a french word
  • 1 3
Karma will get Andreau eventually, dosnt matter if your the best if your the biggest douche to everybody and dont ride your gonna get dropped. and ya this sport pays the big names and andreau is one of them. Do you think if he was hurting for money he would bitch out of every comp?
  • 10 0
I will say one thing about Andreu, he is not a douche, and he actually has the balls to stand up for what he believes in. It may be unprofessional and it may be that he ends up pissing off his sponsors, but maybe not. He has skills, and when he pulls out of a contest when he doesn't feel the course is well designed or safe is not a douche move. It's the move of someone that knows he can't safely do what he wants to win an event, and doesn't want to ride the course just for fun because he doesn't like it. Not because he doesn't have the skills, but because he doesn't feel it's safe. And that's totally fair. A lot of other riders didn't want to ride that course. No lame excuses, I think he echoes the sentiments of a lot of the top pros. I'm tired of sitting here watching a lot of people with average skills bash someone and something they actually know nothing about. It's easy to be a critic of something sitting in front of your computer, I don't see any of the top pro riders calling him a douche... brett236 I'm really tired of reading all of your ignorant comments, it's getting to the point where you're starting to sound a lot like you're trolling. Please don't talk shit about something you know nothing about. And don't get all defensive and start telling me how great you are or how you've done this and that. When you can actually go out and ride something like last years Crankworx course and trick everything then and only then can you start calling out the top pro riders. billy-bike-club your big jumps look sick! Props for building and riding them and actually having a little integrity as well.

brett is a tiring guy.. i don't know if you are working out of the states or not but you are more then welcome to come for a visit Ian.... as you can see from my pics, i can benefit from a lensmen like yourself. Tyler needs to come for a summer visit anyways. and, if you were looking at other pics of my jumps, those were the medium sized ones ; ) maybe ill go take some pics of that progress. i just can't seem to stop moving metric tons of dirt. it's a sickness! no pun intended.
