After a two week weather delay, come no-snow crisis, the small mountain village of Leogang was finally illuminated by the 9th annual Whitestyle event in the characteristic blinding surge of strobe lighting. Blue skies topped jagged peaks all afternoon as the 20 invited riders saw how far they could push it without feeling their fingers, before the sun dipped and the floodlights took over for the main event.
In the end it was Antoine Bizet who painted the night sky red, white and blue for team France, stomping a formidable run that concluded with the super casual, inch-perfect double-flip that has become his calling card. Bostonian youngster and BMX maestro, Nicholai Rogatkin took second signing off with a cashroll and first place qualifier, Anton Thelander, greased his way to third with an oppo flip-whip on the final kicker.
Despite a fairly low-key year on the guest list front, the course builders did everyone proud against the odds and the event went like a well waxed ski through powder. The crowds were as big or bigger than they've ever been and the riders certainly did not disappoint, throwing down extra hard all day long. Look out for the full report on it's way very soon.
