September ended with a bang for Anton Thelander! Not only did the Swedish young gun win the „Martin Söderström Invitational“, but he was also officially crowned as a new member of Sweden’s Red Bull team.

Anton Thelander has been travelling the world as a professional mountain bike athlete – participating at competitions, training at some of the best compounds and attending industry events. So being inaugurated into the Red Bull team in his hometown Uppsala where his career first began has a certain down-to-earth vibe about it. The ‘Martin Söderström Invitational’ took place during the last weekend of September and for Anton Thelander this was no average event. Despite numerous conquests this season, this was his first ever contest as a Red Bull athlete and what’s more – his first ever triumph wearing the renowned Red Bull branded helmet.

And the timing couldn’t have been any better: after an amazing season Anton Thelander is currently ranked sixth in the FMB World Tour overall ranking. This year Anton has been jumping from one success to another. At Vienna Air King in April, Anton scored a wild card for the first major event of the season, Red Bull Berg Line – which he went on to achieve a solid podium result at. Then in June, Anton became the first ever Red Bull Phenom champion during X Games Munich, an outstanding achievement given the skill required to ride at such a big event. His results kept rolling in – a super smooth run at the FMB World Tour Gold event, Colorado Freeride Festival gave Anton yet another podium finish. Then, at the prestigious FMB World Tour Diamond Event, Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler, the young “Cleanlander” hammered home a remarkable fourth place. His smooth riding and technical tricks also earned him the Young Gun Award. On top of that, he is now invited to participate at the final Diamond event and the grand finale of the FMB World Tour, Red Bull Rampage on October 13th.

It was only a matter of time before Red Bull scooped up this talented athlete. Alongside his fellow Swede Martin Soderstrom, Anton now belongs to this elite group of athletes. The new Red Bull athlete commented: “I couldn’t sleep a wink the night before the event. I was of course excited about the chance to do well in a big international competition in my hometown, but also stoked about becoming a Red Bull rider. Both were dreams come true and this is probably the best weekend of my life!”
