why is it that just about every pink bike article or video has to have some comment by a goof like you trying to criticize something that has nothing to do with the riding, how and why does this effect you in any way, shape or form? Do you think that because of your "lost" respect he's going to go out and quit? no
Do you know him? (Not claiming I do) but your respect for him has come from watching him ride, not from his actions in his personal life. If you were to learn more about half the riders out there that you like, you'd probably learn that they have some kind of vice, then you'd probably have a hard time finding any riders you "respect" For some its just a part of growing up and being exposed to a million different substances, and its not really your place or anyone's to say what they should and shouldn't do with their OWN health.
Thanks for the feedback acdownhill. I guess I was a bit jerkish. But if every Pinkbike article or video didn't have something in it that has nothing to with riding (girls, beer, profanity, etc.), goofs like me probably wouldn't feel the need to comment on it. But it does effects me. It bums me out when I see talented young guys with everything going for them doing something so obviously silly. Granted, I was exaggerating a little when I said "All respect lost." I'll always respect good riding. But my feelings about people are made up of everything I know about them, and I'm sure you're the same. There are some people that I respected even more when I got to know them better, others whom I've lost respect for. Of course my feelings don't have to mean anything to them, and I don't expect them to change on my account. But then again I never told anyone to change. Cheers.
Considering how many MTB'ers smoke pot, do other drugs, smoke cigs, etc, I think a can of dip is probably one of the lesser evils I have ran across in this sport. I've seen some top end experts / semi pro riders packing camel 100's in their backpack, or sitting at the bar after riding a day in whistler with a smoke in their mouth.
Chew doesn't effect physical abilities like smoking does (pot included). No one mentions how many people you see hittin' a j on the lift at whistler, or pounding 10 beers back to back after riding... now do they?
Our sport is full of drugs, dopers, hippies, losers, winners, straight edged folks. That is what makes this wonderful.. people from all realms participate in the sport we love. Heck... you better remember where MTB originated from... and that was hippies in California in the 70's and 80's.... on who knows what types of psych drugs.
In the end, no point in crying about someone elses personal ordeals. Generally if you would walk up to someone in real life on a bike and say "what your doing is bad"... you will probably get your arse knocked straight out... because in the end... it's none of your business.
More like shit city. The neighborhood the Cow Palace is in has to be one of the most dirty, illegal immigrant, crack head, drug dealing areas in the region. Not to mention it's close to the actual city of SF, which is just as bad. Dirty, creepy filled town in every way. If everyone else in the bay area had their wishes, SF and Oakland would break apart and float away into the sea, hopefully sinking shortly there after.
