We are excited to bring you the details of the very first ‘Enduro’ mountain bike series in BC, Canada. We have been working hard behind the scenes over the past few months, scouting routes and working with local communities, and now we are ready to release the initial details of the series. Due to the immense interest we received from all the legendary riding towns across BC, we have decided to make not ONE, but TWO Series!

The BC Enduro Series, presented by Norco Bicycles, will cover the coastal zone all the way into central BC. The Kootenay Rockies Enduro Series, presented by Norco Bicycles, will cater to all the avid Calgary and keen Eastern BC riders. We didn't want to leave anyone out and aimed for each series to be within 3-6 hours drive from the highest populated areas. There will be over $15,000 in cash prices over the 2 series, along with tons of product prizing that everyone will have a chance to win! Revelstoke will be the grand finale for both series, bringing them together for a final showdown of the best riders and biggest party!

We would like to welcome on board our Presenting Sponsor for both series – Norco Bicycles. With their support, along with all the local Norco dealer bike shops at each race location, they will be a big part of making this series happen.

Our Goal:
1. To offer all types of mountain bike riders the opportunity to explore BC, visit new towns, and ride new trails! All of this, while experiencing some friendly competition along the way!
2. Provide Pro riders the opportunity to use this series as a stepping stone to bigger events, like the Enduro World Series.
3. Provide the opportunity for youth development in mountain bike riding and racing within Canada.
4. To Provide a diverse range of stages from technical to flowy, longer to shorter, pure descents to more pedal power stages. All of this in the hopes of finding the best 'all mountain' rider!

TIMING SYSTEM:
We will be using our own Sportident timing system, which has proven to be the most accurate and efficient timing system for enduro racing. The Trans Provence, Trans Savoie, most enduro’s in NZ, Scotland, and on the West Coast of BC, are all using this system. We are currently over in NZ using this system to time all the Enduro Races on the South Island, including the Queenstown Bike Festival. By next year we will offer a very accurate, easy to use timing system, that we will have tons of experience operating!

Initial series details can be found on the website that includes: series details, series points, volunteer info, prizing and basic overview of each location. We don’t want to release course information too early so you will have to wait a little while for that!

My thoughts exactly!!! How did they get a sponsorship when they are not a shop in town?!
But super stoked for this race and the series! Bring old time racing back to mountain biking.

 So strange hey?
  • 3 0
Yes topsog this is a tough one and something I have been aiming to make work to keep everyone happy. Norco have stepped up as Series Sponsor and with that Norco Dealer bikes shops have been incorporated to step up to be a part of the organizing committee from a locals perspective. Freedom Bikes have been doing a tremendous amount of work with us in getting the course design down and local support so they are a big part of this event aswell and are the local bike shop support from this side of things. Soveriegn boys ride Penticton a great deal and are there to assist with both the Kelowna and Penticton races and take the lead on the day. Just trying to keep everyone happy and love any support we can get from the locals to help make these races and series a success for you all to enjoy, but I do understand there will be some mixed thoughts on this.
  • 3 0
Tricky situation for sure, what about the bike barn? They would be the local Norco dealer actually located here in Penticton.
I'm sure it will all work out, going to be a fun race!
  • 1 3
..... and this is why grassroots racing in BC never happens or sticks around for very long.
  • 1 0
cough, cough unicorn cough.. nelson fat tire fest, penticton toonie races, fernie toonie races.. come on guy.
  • 1 0
oops and full boar challenge? is that still going on?
  • 1 4
Any other bike shops you want to name drop ? Because apparently that's important to you.
  • 1 0
i mentioned 1 bike shop. so that's the only response you can come up with? good job! have a fantastic day!
  • 4 0
Correction - The Bike Barn are title for Penticton event and sorry for the miscommunication there. Freedom bikes are also a major supporting sponsor. They will be working together to help make this one extremely memorable race to start the series!
  • 1 0
It's going to be awesome!! I hear it will be in the Peat Bog/Carmi area.
  • 1 0
Nope haha, it'll be the zone we all know is perfect for an enduro
  • 3 0
This is AWESOME, especially the second Kootenay series. We NEED to add a 6th stop at Moose Mountain. And theres the Fernie Enduro on August 30, not a part of the series???not that I really want to support the Transrockies group anyway.
  • 2 0
Hi robnow - yes it was talked about with adding in Fernie, but their price structure is very different to the series (their reg is around $120+ and talking more like $140 and we want to keep our 1 day races at around $70 and 2 day races around $90). Also since it is established enduro race with certain structures and sponsors in place it was just a little challenging to make it all work with the structure we are using. We are looking for simplicity and fun for our first year of getting the series up and running!! As for Moose Mountain, I believe they have a cap of 150 participants for any events and we are looking at 200-250?? But please tell me if I am wrong and I am already searching for new ideas and areas to add to 2015!!
  • 1 0
Sounds great! Too bad about Moose, didn't know there was a cap. And good decision in not supporting the Transrockies Group throwing on the Fernie Enduro…just a money grab for a poorly run/organized event.
  • 1 1
What do you think about squamish...???
  • 1 0
Squamish, North Van, Whistler and Pemberton are meant to be doing a locals club series with 8 races over the summer (2 per location) and with all the other races and events going on, the market just seemed too saturated to add in another event. I would have loved to have Pemberton in there but will see how things pan out for the years after. There were many fantastic towns that were inviting us and really wanted to support having a stage hosted in their town, and this is what we want to see, so we decided to go with the places that were really welcoming and wanted to showcase their trails and this allows the population of the sea to sky corridor to branch out to ride other locations in BC!!
  • 1 0
I agree with you , There is a lot of race in the corridor , but there is not many enduro races . its more xc . Aniway I will register to your event . let us know the day you open the register. Thanks.
  • 1 0
The club series I mentioned is an enduro series, so there will be 8 enduro races in the corridor next summer. Here is a few of them www.squamishenduro.com
I don't know a great deal of info on them, just that they are run by NSMBA and SORCA and WORCA etc and is a local club series. Reg will open on Feb 1, 2014 for the BC Enduro Series and I will be putting out another post to let everyone know closer to the time. Thanks fred.

What about northern bc?! Smithers, terrace. Williams lake too!
  • 1 1
How do you figure that WL should be incorporated in the northern series .... the distance from Smithers to there is massive ! Nothing wrong with the puddle, just your logistics don't make sense. You'd never get the guys from there up to the North. Cool idea, just stick with areas within your region and I think it would be awesome !
  • 1 0
There were people coming to the Peel Out from Prince Rupert and Terrace last year...by bus, even!
  • 1 0
@pushingbroom. I didnt mean it in the north. Trust me, I do that drive about 30 times a summer. Or more. For biking. So I dont need distance lessons. I meant that I am surprised there is nothing for williams lake either. I just think including ALL of bc would be awesome.

So stoked to see TWO new series that I know will be legendary!! Definitely going to have to make some long drives for these races!!
  • 6 0
Wow Megan! way to step it up!
  • 1 0
Saweet this is finally announced. Are there going to be 'Cap's' on the races? I only ask because with a Feb 1st registration, how many of the specific races will 'sell out'? Trying to figure out how I have to register so that I 'know' I can actually attend a race vs. it being 'sold out' on the 1st day so to speak. Any guidance that can be provided would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • 1 0
There will be caps and I am still working on permits for each location. So the aim is to know that cap for each race before reg opens on Feb 1 so you all know. I will also be keeping everyone up to date on how registration is looking for each race. Eg do announcements when its 50% and 80% full etc so everyone is aware when they and if they get close to capacity. I am gauging on 200 per event, but aim to be allowed up to 300 per event in my permits. Its hard to gauge the interest of sign ups right now with them all being new events, but by the looks of it I will have to push for the allowance to 300 for most locations. Thanks Quinner and hope this helps

This is really awesome for Enduro in Western Canada. Stoked to have an enduro circuit allowing us in Calgary to join in easily! I was looking down south this year to the enduro series down there, but no I can stay local. Super stoked!

Question about social responsibility - I know it's the first year and margins are tight. Is any money being contributed to charities, bike clubs, trail advocacy groups etc. Pretty common these days for race organizations to step up. It is also a good marketing, branding platform. Also something I have come to expect. Knowing Megan is organizing the event I imagine it will.

Hi Dave, Yes for sure. A minimum of 10% of all entry fees are being donated directly to the local club/society of each community we are racing in. Over the 9 races from the (BC and KR Enduro series), there will be over $14,000 given back into these clubs and societies. I hope it to be more, as I understand the importance of trail maintenance, building, and supporting the hard work that goes into all these fantastic BC Trails. As you mentioned its year 1 and sometimes its very hard to gauge where things are going to go and what expenses a large hi profile series like this can pop up. So 10% is guaranteed and then I will see how things pan out from there for year 1 and for future years. I will also be doing a lot of hands on work myself in many of these communities, which I really look forward to!! Aim is to keep reg as low as possible but still provide a fantastic service and cover costs associate with a series like this. I also have a page on the website about this too bcenduro.com/bc-giving-back.html Thanks Dave and look forward to seeing you out on the trails this summer.

Could reasonably be called the "Southern BC Enduro Series". While I understand the reasoning for most races being in southern BC and the Kootenays, it is a shame that no effort has been made to include even one northern BC stop (Williams Lake would be ideal - and only 6.5 hours from Vancouver). There are plenty of bike clubs up north that would probably jump at the chance to help contribute/organize. Most riders from southern BC have no idea how fantastic the riding in Williams Lake, Smithers, Burns Lake and Terrace really is.

 Cannot wait for this!

Stoked to see the two series join together for the finale in Revy. Skookum will be a great sponsor for this venue. Game changer, cant wait to compete!
  • 3 0
Sooo stoked for this, can't wait!
  • 1 0
Wow looks like a great series! Will definitely be attending most of the series (looks like ST6 participants will have to miss Kelowna).
  • 1 0
This is Awesome- Looking forward to a reason to get on the road more this season to hunt down more killer trails!
  • 3 1
what a series!!!! looks ALL TIME!!!
  • 10 0
What... nothing on the island. .. hurtt!!
  • 2 0
That's what I was thinking p3....very surprised at that.
  • 2 0
 me too.
  • 4 0
Yes, discussion were in chats about the Island and it was just so hard to put a schedule together. It looks as though the Island is going to have their own Enduro Series so that's why we decided to let it stay like that. It doesn't mean it won't be included in the future years!
  • 2 0
Thank you thank you thank you! definitly needed this!
  • 1 1
I hope the Revelstoke stop incorporates the Martha Creek Meltdown, which usually takes place that weekend. That would make for an epic race.
  • 2 0
Martha Creek was in contention, but with it being an enduro, the ride up the road is one boring long slog. We wanted something a bit more exciting as a finale (although yes the descent is exciting!!), and since they only got 11 for the enduro and 25 for the DH event this year, we figured this isn't what people wanted in an enduro race. So we have been working on some other ideas!!
  • 3 0
shame about martha creek. I did the climb both years, but for me it seemed more like an XC race as the climb is where the big time gaps were formed
  • 1 0
 What routes for penticton?
  • 3 0
Nothing being revealed yet! But I think its personally going to my favorite riding and course of the series!!
  • 1 0
Hell ya ! This is sweet, gonna be some quick chaps I bet
  • 1 0
 awesome.........can't wait !!
  • 1 0
 What no Squamish?
  • 1 0
 Sovereign in penticton?
  • 1 0
 How did they manage that?
  • 1 0
See comment up the top in regards to this!!
  • 2 2
 No love for Vancouver Island?
  • 1 0
 Fantastic, I am stoked!
  • 1 0
 Love it !!!
  • 3 4
Are you sure your not just gunna use an ipads stop clock again?
  • 1 2
 yes daniel
  • 1 3
Because thats what they did last year
  • 2 2
Haha that was funny, I think that might have been just for the shitty "Super D" that no one cares about though. Hopefully htey.ll get their shit together enough for clocks this year...
  • 1 0
I wonder if it worked better than the lazy as f*ck couple thousand dollar chip timing (resolution of say 15m) setups Trans rockies used at the Fernie race.

Should be good, and they have the right structure going on, East and West. Finally, we can stop dragging on about bikes and enduro specific parts and get RACING!
  • 1 0
Ha, yes no ipads. But if that system is used 'correct' it is actually a good app but not for the caliper for a BC Enduro Series. Be rest assured the system we just purchased will be dialed and I have used it on 3 races in NZ in the past month with zero errors and have 6 more to time over the next few months. Will it have fancy large clocks at the finish line? no. But results will be ready within 15mins of the last rider crossing the line, with possibly tentative results posted after about half the riders are through if people can't wait until the end for results!!
  • 1 4
So... for a BC enduro series, why is Canmore included? Canmore is NOT in BC...?
  • 1 0
The Canmore section is not in the BC series...it is in the 'KR' series; Kootenay/Rockies.
  • 2 0
 who cares. ENDUROOO
  • 1 0
Thanks racerfacer....yes its 'outside' the Kootenay Rockies Region to be included in the Kootenay Series, but figured it was close enough and I am sure the following years with race locations moving around I may have to adjust the name but I really don't think it matters all that much - lets just ride!
