Syndicate's Goldman 6th at Banger in the Hanger, Yippy Do Da!

The Banger in the Hanger, a skatepark competition, was held Friday Dec. 2nd at the indoor skatepark at Woodward West in Tehachapi, California and was put on by Black Market’s Carter Holland and Atomlab. This event drew the best group of jumping talent from around North America, and concluded the SoCal Super Tour.Fresh off the weeklong SoCal Super Tour, Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Jamie Goldman recounts tall tales of his first trip to John Cowan’s backyard, and of his 6th place finish at Woodward:

“Cowan’s house was ridiculous. You see all the footage and all the pictures but until you go there you will never know how perfect it is. All the jumps are perfectly groomed and ooh, it just makes me happy thinking about them. It’s like if you were 6 years old and all your friends got to go to Toys R Us, and you had never been there and you were sick so you didn’t get to go, then you see all the toys they brought home and it makes you so bummed, but then a couple of months later you win a raffle and get 100 dollars towards toys. There, wouldn’t that be the best?

Anyways, I got there, checked it out for about 2 minutes and then had to go pee ‘cause I was so excited! After I got through with that, I ran over and grabbed my bike and put on all my pads, got to the top and had no clue where to go so I had to watch for a while cause some of the lines are gnarly. Then I took a run there, so perfect! I got through first try no problem with just watching others go. Not much huge went down that day but we were playing around. I did a back flip ET to tuck no hander that was sketchy. Greg Watts did a back flip double barspin and no one even second guessed it cause it was so perfect, that kid is nuts. Cam McCaul was doing sweet hip-barrel-transfer-flip thingies, it looked like a snowboarder, it was sick! There were some three whip attempts but no one stuck ‘um.

On to Woodward, we had a day of practice and stuff was going down. I think practice was more exciting than the comp! Greg Watts and Paul Bas were flipwhipping the resy box. I learned flip one handed X ups on the box ramp and I got my favorite compliment of all time; someone compared it to Ryan Nyquist! I thought that was cool. Chase was foofing everything in sight as usual. Bearclaw was destroying the bowl, huge airs and all that good stuff. The bowl was actually real scary cause there were giant puddles from all the rain and the building was leaking. It looked like the Claw popped a squat in the bowl on a break between shreds.

Then the comp, I’ll give you my favorite thing from each of the top ten, you’ll just have to wait for the rest:

10. Carter Holland-as usual Carter was airing the poop out of the quarters

9. Joe Prisel.-540 quarter to sub

7.Cameron McCaul- jump off your bike front flip 360 into the foam

7.J.D. Swanguen-backward manual over the deck of the box jump

6.Jamie Goldman-hip flip over the quarter to bank hip

5.Dave Smutok- truck driver over the box jump

3.Adam Hauck- tailwhip air on super small quarter

3.Aaron Chase- foof on sub box to immediate 3 on big spine

2. Phil Sundbaum- tail whip on quarter to bank hip

1. Darren Berrecloth- you’ve probably all heard about the road gap so I will go with the 360 table over the spine.

That’s all I got. Oh yeah, the dirt jumps at Woodward are the bomb! Too bad it rained almost the entire time.”
