A phenomenal prize purse has just been announced for The Bearclaw Invitational Slopestyle at Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island. On September 2nd, a total cash purse of over $9000 will be up for grabs. The rider taking first place is expected to cash in over $4000 following the first-year event."I've invited some of the best freeriders I know," explains the event's namesake, Darren Berrecloth. "The key to making this event a success is looking after the riders. I want to provide these guys with a prize purse that will make their moms proud."

The riders' list for the invite only Slopestyle reads like a mountain biking dream team. Berrecloth will be competing along with biking heroes Cam McCaul, Paul Basagoitia, Cam Zink, Islanders Ryder Kasprick and Jordie Lunn, Thomas Vanderham and a legion of other top freeriders.

The one-day event on the Green Face of Mount Washington is sure to bring out the locals by the hundreds, even thousands. Big interest in the event has already spread across to the lower mainland and even as far away as Europe.

"We've ordered extra hot dogs for the tailgate party," laughs Brent Curtain, PR Director at the resort. "If the weather continues the way it's going, we'll have to get another truck load of Lucky Lager and Kokanee for the beer garden!"

The competition is taking place from noon to 6pm. In between the visual spectacle of riders sessioning the course, spectators can participate in the tailgate BBQ party complete with Kokanee Beer garden. Local rockers Big Red Truck will be pumping the crowd between sets of the human air show.

Slopestyle is one of the fastest growing competitions in the world of mountain biking. With riders pulling off unbelievable stunts over sick concoctions of dirt, wood and metal, it is easy to understand the sport's attraction to the masses. The Bearclaw Invitational Slopestyle is the latest stop on the freeride mountain biking tour.
