Bearclaw Invitational - Day 2 Photos and Recap

Aug 24, 2013

Bearclaw Invitational RAINED OUT. The caps made this seem really stressful I bet, hey?

It's not cancelled, the towel just got thrown in early on day two during the pro seeding and resulted in a giant train down the course, which in all honesty was one of the coolest things to happen all day.

Regardless of that shattering news (I'm sure things are still horrible in Egypt, but Island Life has taken its toll) there was a solid amateur comp that went on (Went Off -Jordie Lunn). It was in fact so "Off" that The Claw Himself invited the top six placements to ride in the pro contest tomorrow.

In no particular order, here is who made it in:

Maximillian (From Eurpoe)
Eric Lawrenuk
Wink Grant
Liam Wallace
Carsen Storch
Logan Peat

Those six am's took some some rad prizes, along with a chance to compete with the pros tomorrow... Which viably can lead to much larger prizes as well.

Other things to note:

There are wild blueberries on course, so basically sweet Mother Nature has catered the event... If you're into having a blue mouth.

The riders are super pumped on the course reconstruction, and the best possible quote from Andreu was something in regards to riding mountain bikes on actual dirt, and not gravel or sand.

Not too many people are thrilled with the big jump on the left side on the course, most likely because the right side has two smaller jumps so it's basically a 2 for 1 deal. The big jump will be used for the whip-off, and is still very rad.

The one more run thing didn t work out so hot so the tarps came out.

Since there aren't many other major happens to talk about (Unless we describe everything that happened to talk your ears off) here's a dump of more images.

The event is named after Claw but there is lots of people who work their asses off to make it happen and keep it happening. The work never ends.

The am contest was goin off. Calling it an AM contest is almost disrespectful. The field was full of dudes who can compete in the pro ranks.

More proof that the ams were goin off. Front flip bail out. Also proof that even if you re just trying to win yourself a contest and follow your dreams...Harrison Mendel will gladly film your pain and enjoy every second of it.

Jordy Lunn has been killing it lately. For real. The dude has a renewed drive and it shows. Super stylish toboggan off the big boy drop.

One of the rad things about the invitational is that it s a million times more chill than a lot of the other comps. Kids can just chill on some scaffolding while rubbin shoulders with their favorite riders.

Wink G was the first am-qualified rider to drop in and in true Wink form he wasted no time also dropping some style. Nose tap hitch post.

Yannick is never one to say no to a big drop. Knockin out an X in his first seeding run.

During seeding runs the rain moved in and afte r a good few handfuls of group yells nearly the entire pro field trained the course top to bottom. Gangsta.

Lots of these AM guys were not officially "invited" to the comp so they had to compete in the AM comp to have a shot with the pros. Everyone threw down so hard such a good weekend riding and building with these guys though.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means

I was using it to refer to the guys in the so called "Amateur" competition. Something along the lines of an "Open class" would be way better.
