Big Mountain has launched Alpenrock, a new 9-day downhill mountain bike adventure in the Swiss Alps and the first trip of its kind. The guides to show you the way are none other than mountain bike legends Wade Simmons and Joe Schwartz.

“I’ve ridden my mountain bike all over the world,” says North Shore-based Simmons, “and Switzerland has the best riding on the planet. The network of lifts, trains, mountain passes, mountain huts and big, untapped descents is like nowhere else - hitting these on a big bike is over the top.”

Alpenrock takes place in some of Europe’s most spectacular mountains. The trip starts in Verbier, an up-and-coming bike park with views of Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak. Then it’s onto a series of unknown villages and descents along the Rhone Valley. Next stop Zermatt for a day in the shadow of the mighty Matterhorn and finally to the beautiful town of Brig, in the heart of the Alps.

On Alpenrock you’ll rarely cross another mountain bike track and never wait in a lift line. The method of ascent is via shuttle vehicle, chairlift, gondola, tram and train. At the end of the trip, expect over 100,000 vertical feet of descending, and never on the same trail.

Joe Schwartz speaks about Alpenrock, “The trails that we ride on this trip have changed me as a rider. I can barely begin to describe how perfect they are.”

Founded in 2002, Big Mountain Bike Adventures is an innovative company that offers all-mountain, XC and downhill mountain bike trips in Morocco, Costa Rica, Italy, British Columbia, Mexico, South Africa and Botswana and Switzerland.
