Two more brodiums at Mountain States Cup #1

Brodie b team USA riders picked up two more Podium spots at the Chile Challenge in the first stop of the Mountain States Cup this past weekend at Angel Fire, NM.

Pro Woman downhiller Jackie Harmony, picked up a second place finish in the DH behind Cannondale’s Wendy Reynolds. Thus far this season Jackie’s been on the podium at every stop, except for Sea Otter where she literally got stuck in the mud. Jackie has finished on the podium at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, NV, Firestone Walker in Santa Barbara, NORBA National #1 in Fontana, CA, and now the Chile Challenge. Jackie also picked up an 8th place finish racing against the men on the most challenging and dangerous course to date in El Paso, TX.In his first race flying the b, team newcomer Chris Meyers also raced to a third place podium finish in the Junior Expert DH. Chris erased the 30-second spacing interval and got hung up behind a slower rider that refused to get out of the way for the last half of the course, or Chris likely would have eclipsed much more time than the 3 second difference between himself and the top spot on the podium. Never one to protest nor complain, Chris was more upset that he got slowed down going into the road gap (where he wanted to boost something big) than he was about getting slowed down in the overall race. The photos show a pretty big “stylie” table over the gap anyway.

Chris also sailed away with the Jr. X small final in the Mountain Cross event the night before. He got pushed out in the first corner and couldn’t find a passing lane in the semis, which was pretty much the only heat he didn’t control. Actually, he did get passed in one of the prelims by landing sideways off a huge whip on one of the doubles at the bottom of the course, but straightened it out to roll in and advance to the next round. Asked about Chris’ showboating almost costing him a race (similar to the fate in the infamous US Olympic bordercross debacle) Team Manager Ernest Vogel said only “who cares, as long as the kid is havin’ fun and riding the way he wants ride. He won the unofficial style title of the night hands down anyway, pro’s included. He threw huge whips and tables on basically every jump on course in pretty much every heat. It was fun to watch.”
